OUR SCHOOL

Gilman School is a pre-kindergarten through twelfth-grade private independent day school for boys. Set on a 57-acre campus in the northern part of Baltimore City, Gilman serves roughly 1,000 students in three divisions. The School has a full-time faculty of nearly 140, and the average class size is 16 students.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Gilman School is seeking a creative and collaborative Associate Director of Communications and Content Strategy to help bring our community's stories to life. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, this role plays a key part in developing engaging content while managing the flow of school-wide communications that inform, inspire, and strengthen connections across the Gilman community.

The successful candidate is an exceptional writer who understands how to create content that engages diverse audiences. Working closely with faculty, staff, administrators, students, and alumni, this individual will identify stories that reflect the excellence of the Gilman experience and translate them into communications that support admissions, advancement, community engagement, and institutional priorities.

This is an on-campus, 12-month position.

Manage the development and distribution of schoolwide print and digital communications, including twice-monthly e-newsletters, event invitations, advertising, magazine articles, brochures, website content, and emails.
Craft mission-aligned copy for various audiences, including:

Admission materials for prospective families
Website articles for broad audiences, including prospective and current families
Feature stories for print publications distributed to alumni, current families, and donors

Serve as editor-in-chief and content creator for two annual print publications.
Distribute schoolwide communications through Finalsite, ensuring accurate audience targeting, timely delivery, and quality control.
Support writing, editing, and communication strategy for leadership and key offices across the school, including Admissions, Advancement, College Counseling, Community, Inclusion and Equity (CIE), and the Business Office.
Provide content and support to school divisions for weekly parent communications, ensuring a cohesive brand and consistent experience.
Conceptualize ideas, write scripts, offer direction, and provide editing feedback on videos.
Strategically draft and edit crisis communications for internal and external audiences.
Working with the Director of Marketing and Communications, develop and execute a plan that ensures Gilman’s presence in local and national conversations and publications.

Identify and research ideas, write content such as features, short news pieces, and profiles; pitch stories to local and national news media, and write press releases and other supporting materials.

Partner with the Digital Content Manager and Sports Information Director to bring these stories to life on our social media channels and school website.
Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED

8+ years of experience.
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or marketing.
A master’s degree is a plus.
Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft copy on a wide range of topics and with different tones. 
Creative thinker with a proactive, can-do personality.
Strong project management skills required — ability to juggle multiple concurrent projects, timelines, and stakeholders. Familiarity with project management platforms (e.g., Asana, Monday, Teamwork) is a plus.
Ability to thrive in a team environment while also being a disciplined, independent worker.
Eagerness to engage in the life of the school community.
Design experience is a plus.
Familiarity with CMS platforms such as FinalSite.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

We are committed to transparency and supporting our employees' well-being. For this role, we offer a competitive salary range of $65,000-$80,000 based on experience and qualifications.
