Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM): Our mission is to implement federal and state regulations to protect human health and the environment while allowing the environmentally sound operations of industrial, agricultural, commercial, and governmental activities vital to a prosperous economy. We issue air, water, and solid and hazardous waste permits that restrict discharges to environmentally safe levels. Staff members inspect and monitor regulated entities; provide compliance and technical assistance; monitor and assess air, land, and water quality; use enforcement actions as necessary to ensure compliance; and respond to incidents involving spills to soil or waters of the state.
Role Overview:
This position serves as an administrative assistant within the IDEM Office of Air Quality, Compliance and Enforcement Branch. Specifically, this position serves as the administrative assistant associated with the Branch's Open Burning program and the Virtual File Cabinet (VFC). Prior administrative assistant experience is preferred.
The duties involved in this position include, but are not limited to:
Receiving and logging of open burning approval applications and distributing applications to the appropriate air compliance inspector.
Mailing and indexing of completed open burning approvals.
Managing the public notice of open burning approvals.
Distributing monthly reports regarding open burning application activity.
Working with the open burning team to ensure the production of high-quality work products.
Indexing documents consistent with OAQ and Branch SOPs on the VFC.
Assisting with records request of VFC documents.
Serving as a back-up for other Branch administrative assistants as needed.
Assisting with other special projects within the Branch as needed.
Salary:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $37,648.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Provides advanced administrative support to an agency, department, or facility.
Reviews the organizational structure and functions of assigned program area to recommend changes to promote effectiveness.
Administers staff functions in support of program area.
Aids program administrator in applying agency or department policies and procedures.
Represents program administrator in meetings with representative of other agencies, and interested public to explain and interpret program goals, policies, and procedures.
Prepares, evaluates, and maintains administrative reports, policies, and procedures for different program areas
