Position Summary: The College of Arts and Science at Vanderbilt University invites applications for the position of Theatre Technology Coordinator to maintain all technical equipment (lights, sound, and projection), design one media category (lights, sound, or projection) for 4 shows per year according to the candidate’s specialization/experience and assist with production management tasks. This position will work with the Chair and Associate Chair to support teaching and technical training in the Department of Cinema, Media Arts, and Theatre. This is a term position for the period of one year with the option of renewal. This is a full-time position and requires knowledge and understanding of University policies and procedures.
About the Work Unit: The Department of Cinema, Media Arts, and Theatre (CMAT) bridges the study, design, and production of cinema, media, and live entertainment. Students will experience a vibrant interdisciplinary curriculum, enabling them to hone their skills for creative expression, problem solving, analytical thinking, leadership and collaboration, cultural awareness, and social engagement. Courses in Theatre prepare students for a range of careers in entertainment industries, arts, public service, and creative entrepreneurship. Within CMAT, the Theatre major offers an interdisciplinary curriculum that combines theatre production with the study of theatre theory and history. Majors are required to create work outside of the classroom, including involvement in mainstage productions.
Key Functions and Expected Performance: • Review inventory regularly to check for damaged equipment and tools • Repair damaged items and/or source the pathway for repairs as needed • Hang and focus light plot for 4 mainstage productions per academic year • Collaborate with directors and production team members • Manage project timelines and meet show production deadlines • Attend design meetings and be present for evenings during tech week to implement design
Schedule and host production meetings via zoom • Maintain and manage production budget within project scope • Assist with managing production calendar • Take archival videos of each production for department records • Stay up-to-date on industry standards for technology/media specialization • Create and implement lighting plot, sound design, or projection content for each show • Oversee student worker efforts as needed • Be present for some shows on evenings and weekends • Ensure safety of students and others during production • Additional duties as assigned
Supervisory Relationships This position reports administratively to the Administrative Officer and functionally to the Associate Chair. The position requires interaction with students, faculty, and staff throughout the University, but does not have supervisory responsibility.
Education and Certifications: A High School Diploma or GED is necessary plus 2-3 years of experience. An Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution of higher education is preferred.
Experience and Skills: • Theatre or related degree, and/or experience successfully working in the field is preferred. • Working knowledge of such programs as Vectorworks, Lightwright, Qlab, ETCP Electrics, Logicpro, and/or Protools is preferred. • Strong organizational & analytical skills are necessary. • Excellent interpersonal written & oral communications skills are necessary. • Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects is necessary. • Ability to work both independently and with a team of student workers is necessary. • Instructional Experience is preferred.

Our Interdisciplinary Materials Science (IMS) program offers a unique multidisciplinary experience where students design their own curriculum, and collaborate with faculty and students from engineering, chemistry, physics, and medicine, who are working on some the biggest of society's challenges.
The IMS Ph.D. program is integrated with VINSE (Vanderbilt Institute of Nanoscale Science and Engineering), which boasts brand new state-of-the-art fabrication and characterization facilities. Resources include a cleanroom, analytical/nanocrystal support core, and an advanced imaging suite.
Our students rotate through three different labs in the first year to learn the culture of each research group and the advising style of the mentors prior to project/adviser selection.
