POSITION SPECIFICS
Penn State University is seeking a detail-oriented, collaborative, and proactive Compliance Specialist to support University Health Services (UHS) at University Park.
This role is responsible for leading regulatory compliance efforts, advancing quality improvement initiatives, supporting policy and procedure development, coordinating clinician credentialing and peer review activities, and overseeing annual training and onboarding processes.
The Compliance Specialist serves as a key partner to UHS leadership and works across departments to help ensure UHS maintains compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and operational standards while promoting a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Regulatory Compliance
Monitor, research, and interpret updates from regulatory and accrediting agencies impacting UHS operations, including, but not limited to, federal and state regulations, the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), Commission on Laboratory Accreditation (COLA), pharmacy organizations, and the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).
Implement actions needed to maintain compliance and ensure workforce members complete required follow-up activities.
Serve as the AAAHC liaison and lead for UHS and coordinate accreditation-related activities.
Quality Improvement and Risk Mitigation
Co-chair Quality Improvement (QI) Committee meetings and support members with project development, benchmarking, and narrative summary documentation.
Review, enter, and analyze incident reports and trends; communicate findings to the Senior Director and Administrative Committee.
Review, track, and route patient and customer comments to appropriate UHS managers and ensure timely follow-up.
Maintain databases for comments and reporting to support internal analysis and accreditation needs.
Partner with University Risk Management on annual liability insurance renewal activities.
Promote a proactive, risk-aware culture and perform compliance audits as needed.
Run quarterly patient/customer satisfaction reports, analyze data, and communicate trends and significant findings to leadership.
Policy and Procedure Implementation
Partner with the Senior Director to review, revise, develop, and recommend policies and procedures to the Administrative Committee.
Provide updates on regulatory and accreditation policy changes and recommend actions needed to maintain compliance.
Identify and report discrepancies between UHS policies/procedures and external regulatory standards.
Clinician Reappointment, Peer Review, and Credentialing
Work with the Senior Director and Medical Director to lead appointment and reappointment processes for clinicians.
Ensure credentialing files are complete, current, and compliant with applicable requirements.
Lead the clinician peer review process.
Annual Training and On/Offboarding
Oversee initial onboarding, annual training, and offboarding processes for all workforce members.
Verify required training completion and work directly with staff and managers to resolve gaps.
Create and revise annual training content as needed.
