The Surgical Pathology Technician processes and prepares specimens for high-complexity testing while maintaining accurate records in the Epic Beaker system. They collaborate with pathologists and providers to ensure sample integrity and contribute to a positive patient experience.
Candidates must have at least 24 college credits, including 12 in chemistry or biological sciences, or 24 credits plus two years of relevant laboratory experience. Proficiency in medical terminology and anatomy is preferred, along with basic computer and keyboarding skills.
Fairview is seeking a fulltime Surgical Pathology Technician (SPT) with rotating shifts at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital (6:00am-2:30pm, 7:00am-3:30pm and 8:00am-4:30pm) with intermittent float coverage at M Health Fairview Ridges Hospital (1-2 days per month dependent on staffing needs, 7:00am-7:30pm or 7:30am-4:00pm). No weekends, no holidays, no call.
The Surgical Pathology Technician (SPT) performs all work processes necessary for the preparation or procurement of specimens (blocks, slides, tissue, other) used for high complexity testing as defined by CLIA'88. The SPT possesses knowledge of the pathology/clinical laboratories (Cytology, Cytogenetic, Hematopathology, Molecular, Histology, or other), recognizes problems, identifies basic causes, and makes corrections using established protocols. The SPT processes data based on knowledge of technical conditions affecting diagnostic test results and performs procedures within established parameters. The SPT collaborates with the customers of the laboratory to promote patient and provider experience. The SPT works independently under general supervision.
