Selects, supports and trains Team Members in all essential functions and skill sets, and assigns duties and tasks accordingly to ensure effective operation and continuous improvement of processes. Responsible for the work flow in their area of operation. Leads the team in safe and effective execution of production plans using a structured lean work and management system. This includes leading effective response to abnormal conditions; participate/lead in problem-solving activities to obtain sustainable standards, and supporting continuous improvement efforts in their area.
Job Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
Safety:
Monitors work environment to ensure safe working conditions and safe conduct and behavior by staff and other company personnel. Take corrective action to include, but not limited to disciplinary steps, retraining, etc. as he/she deems necessary to maintain health and safety of others within the Crew Leader’s area of production.
Quality:
Responsible for subordinate production staff adherence to quality guidelines, procedures, and standards are consistently followed throughout the manufacturing operation including control plans, routings, prints, SPC data, standard work, etc.
Supervise subordinate staff to ensure 1st piece / last piece inspection and sign-off is performed to meet company quality standards. Takes corrective action to include, but not limited to disciplinary steps, retraining, etc. as he/she deems necessary to maintain product quality and timely delivery.
Conducts audits (safety checks, 5S, standardized work, and other standard GPS audits) and directly takes effective corrective action to remediate deficiencies and risks evident from these audits.
Conducts layered process audits and develop task lists with action items to address non-conformances or improvements to product and processes.
May have to track down missing parts or sort/ contain any Quality issues.
Collaborate with Quality to obtain information needed.
Helps ensure the control and storage of master sample parts including appearance and poke yoke / rabbit parts
Works with all required support groups to ensure all required services are in place to produce quality product that meets or exceeds customer requirements
Responsibility & Customer-Driven:
Based upon production audits (see above) initiates requests for changes to standard work procedures, works with respective department (Engineering, Quality, HR, Maintenance, etc.) to update the standard work to include the training of subordinate operators as required. Prepares the floor, insures jobs are set up and participates in changeovers as qualified. Troubleshoots issues and works with the Manufacturing Engineers, Quality Engineer, Maintenance and Team members to ensure efficient production.
Leads daily start-up meetings reviewing production information to include assigning duties and tasks to subordinate staff based upon staff member’s demonstrated productivity and quality performance as well as skill level. Monitors the production environment and identifies abnormal and out-of-standard conditions. Once identified, promptly implements appropriate countermeasures (both temporary and permanent) to include, but not limited to, retraining of staff, reassignment of staff, and initiation of work order changes. The top priority is to take preventative actions that maintain worker safety, product quality, overall equipment effectiveness, productivity, and cost targets.
Leadership in front line operation of a lean Daily Management System (DMS). This includes responsibility for:
Mechanics of the DMS process including gathering and communication of status information (observations, audits, operational report generation or transmittal), diligent and timely updating of management boards at the process and team levels, effective conduct of daily team meetings, and positive participation in meetings.
Participate in structured problem solving efforts for issues and problems that team resources (plus any appropriate specialist resources) are sufficient to resolve any special problem solving efforts.
Timely and effective execution of action items, using team and external resources, including escalation of concerns to higher levels of management when appropriate.
Will initiate the ordering of supplies as needed.
Will be required to prepare for shift hand offs prior to and after the shift.
Writes Maintenance work orders and directs Maintenance.
May get involved with inventory management, transfers and back flush issues.
Will help with sample runs as needed.
Participate and record weekly layered process audits and participates in both internal and external quality / process / safety audits including the organizations quality management system audit.
Integrity:
Prints and distributes priority reports along with control and routing plans.
Keeps the visual board information updated hourly.
Respect & Family:
Evaluates work cell capacity and initiates request for staffing. Conducts interviews of candidates for hire or promotion into or out of Crew.
Provide direct feedback to team members on performance and implementation of GPS tools.
Resolve conflicts between team members and take appropriate action. Escalate conflicts to supervisor as needed.
Trains work group members (new and existing) on standard work, job functions and new processes.
Will re-allocate Team members depending upon job schedule and schedule line reliefs. Ensure all employees go to required meetings as scheduled.
Assists with developing a cross training plan and responsible to execute it.
Provides input to Supervisor for Team Members evaluation. The Team Leader should conduct/provide the evaluation of team members. Provide feedback to team members on performance in addition to responsibility for disciplinary action.
Will help in the implementation of company sponsored initiatives, employee suggestions, improvement opportunities, and etc.
Responsible to help with the training of employees as needed.
