The Director of Design for Brands will set the vision for the brand experience on the DoorDash platform and lead a cross-functional team to drive growth and personalization. This role involves managing the end-to-end merchant experience, mentoring design talent, and partnering with product and engineering leaders to execute the company's strategy.
Requirements
Candidates must have 15+ years of design experience, including at least 7 years in team building and management of teams with 20+ members. A strong portfolio showcasing large-scale problem-solving and high design caliber is required.
DoorDash is looking for a Design Director for our Brands business. This role sits at a uniquely strategic intersection of DoorDash's multisided marketplace — bridging the needs of Brands, retailers, and consumers to power discovery, growth, and a more personalized shopping experience across the platform.
This role owns the end-to-end experience that Brands have on DoorDash. In the near term, that means ensuring brands can understand their business through rich sales data and operational metrics, manage their business by pushing catalog changes and maintaining their presence on the platform, and grow their business through ads and promotions. The aggregate brand investment on DoorDash runs into the billions, making this a critical growth lever for the company.
Looking ahead, there are a lot of opportunities to design across all of New Vertical (NV) Growth Products — growing along three dimensions: expanding the customer base from brands to broader brand partners and ultimately to a brands-plus-retailers model and incubating new product surfaces including insights tools, in-store solutions, and more.
Through your leadership and vision, you will help DoorDash become the trusted growth partner for every brand looking to reach customers at scale — while delivering more relevant, personalized experiences to consumers.
This role will report into our Head of Design for Ads & Promotions and lead a major pillar in the org.
You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…
Set the vision for Brands design and define the pragmatic milestones to achieve that vision with your cross-functional team
Deeply immerse yourself into the complexity of the merchant and advertiser design problems, drive meaningful solutions, and make a measurable impact on business
Actively practice and evangelize customer-centric thinking organizationally
Play a strong partner to cross-functional teams like Product, Engineering, Analytics, and Operations to realize the company’s mission
Partner with the design leaders in consumer and driver experiences to build a holistic journey in a three-sided marketplace
Hire the best talents who will raise the bar at DoorDash
Coach and mentor designers on both soft and hard skills and help them develop and achieve career goals
Build a culture that elevates the team, in terms of both performance and morale
Establish the operation model that increases the team’s effectiveness
Align the team’s priorities and deliverables to the company’s overarching strategy and goals
Be an inspirational leader through your creativity, vision, commitment, and persistence
We’re excited about you because…
You thrive in a fast-paced product environment
You exhibit a strong bias toward action
You can think and scale at 10x
You are a proactive problem solver, not just a problem identifier
You are curious, and willing to go above and beyond the job description
You are a respected people manager with high EQ; You know how to motivate a team even in the most challenging times
You attract top talents and hire people who will raise the bar
You are able to stand up for shipping the quality product for customers
You make a great thought partner with cross-functional teams
You are an excellent storyteller and effective communicator
You exude a can-do attitude and enthusiasm
You are self-aware and humble
You have a strong portfolio showcasing the problem-solving skill at large scale and high design caliber
15+ years of experience in design, with minimum 7 years in team building and management
Have managed and scaled a team of 20+
