What We Are Looking For
Baylor University is seeking an Academic Advisor in Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences. The Academic Advisor consults directly with students on developing academic plans, providing support through challenges in college, advising on course selection, overseeing assigned responsibilities related to student retention, and providing guidance on academic progress toward degree completion. The Academic Advisor provides critical support to the Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences student population ensuring students maintain satisfactory academic progress toward degree completion.
A bachelor's and one year of relevant work experience are required. A bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant work experience are preferred. A combination of education and work experience will be considered in lieu of one another.
Additional required knowledge or skills include:
Understanding of college student development and academic issues; ability to work with external constituents
Excellent communication (written and oral), interpersonal, collaborative, and supervisory skills
Skilled in organization and coordination of complex projects
Ability to work independently
Ability to interpret and implement university policies and procedures
Commitment to diversity and ability to work with individuals or groups with diverse backgrounds
All applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
What You Will Do
Serve as advisor of record for freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, and transfer students by developing educational plans, selecting courses, evaluating academic progress, referring to university resources and reviewing degree options and study abroad
Assist in various departmental, Robbins College, and University initiatives to improve student success as designated by the Director
Participate in the development of objectives and actions connected with the University’s vision
Provide professional guidance, consultation, and expertise to students
Assist with external communications related to department policies and admissions
Promote student growth by determining suitable development tasks
Prepare and update advising materials as needed
Develop and provide assessments of retention initiatives
Help monitor all policies for advising for Robbins
Assist with a departmental process, program, or other retention and student success initiative as designated by the Director
Assist with Robbins Orientation sessions for incoming students and their families as well as new student advising
Complete projects as assigned by Director and Dean’s office
Participate in weekly meetings with Robbins staff
Represent Baylor University and Robbins College at state, national, and international conferences related to advising and curriculum management
Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission
Ability to comply with university policies
Maintain regular and punctual attendance
