Full job description
At Steadfast Health, we're on a mission to deliver hope, healing, and long-term health to those experiencing substance use disorder, through best-in-class addiction treatment and an unwavering belief that lasting recovery comes from partnering with our patients as respected equals in their care journey. We're a passionate team striving to raise the standard of compassionate care for our patients, and we know that to do that, we must care for our people first.
Level & Compensation:This role will be hired at either the Manageror Directorlevel, depending on the candidate's experience and scope of prior responsibility. We encourage candidates across this experience range to apply — we'll determine the right level together during the interview process.
Manager:Base salary $90,000 - $110,000, with a 10% performance-based bonus program
Typically 2+ years managing outpatient behavioral health/SUD clinic operations, with direct oversight of daily staffing, scheduling, and clinical workflow
Director:Base salary $110,000 - $130,000, with a 10% performance-based bonus program
Typically 5+ years in outpatient behavioral health/SUD clinic leadership, including direct P&L ownership and experience building or scaling a clinical team from the ground up
Candidates with direct Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) experience are strongly preferred.
Is This You?
This role is built for someone who has managed the day-to-day of anoutpatient behavioral health, mental health, or substance use disorder treatment clinic. You know what it means to run a clinic where clinical caseloads, harm reduction philosophy, and patient census directly shape daily operations, and you're fluent in the specific rhythms of behavioral health care delivery.
Why This Role Exists
We're hiring the founding Clinic Director for our new outpatient SUD treatment center in Raleigh, NC. Steadfast Health operates clinics across multiple states, and Raleigh will be our next launch using a playbook refined through every prior launch: proven hiring processes, clinical protocols, and operational systems that let a new leader focus on building a strong local team and culture rather than inventing infrastructure from zero.
This isn't a from-scratch build: you'll have the benefit of Steadfast's existing operational playbook, clinical standards, and organizational support, while still getting the ground-floor experience of shaping your own team and clinic culture from day one.
What You've Done Before
Managed daily operations of an outpatient behavioral health, mental health, or SUD clinic, including staffing, scheduling, and clinical workflow
Operated within aharm reduction, non-punitive care model— and can speak to how that philosophy shapes day-to-day decisions
Managed clinical caseloads and patient census alongside a clinical team (therapists, case managers, peer support staff, APPs)
Used behavioral-health-specific EHR and reporting tools to track KPIs like patient retention, no-show rates, and access times
Navigated the specific regulatory and accreditation landscape of behavioral health/SUD treatment (e.g., CARF, state SUD licensure requirements)
Responsibilities
Operations & P&L Management
Oversee day-to-day operations of the clinic, ensuring high-quality care delivery, strong team morale, efficiency, and compliance
Own the clinic's P&L, managing budgets, revenue, and expenses to drive financial sustainability and growth
Own key metrics such as retention, no-show rates, access times, and productivity to ensure the clinic meets its operational goals
Leadership & Team Development
Lead by example, mentor, and develop staff to cultivate a supportive, collaborative, and high-performing team environment
Ensure strong hiring, onboarding, and talent development processes to drive employee satisfaction and high-quality patient care delivery
Foster an environment where staff feel heard and supported, conducting regular 1:1s and team meetings to align goals, address challenges, and ensure accountability
High-Quality, Harm Reduction-Aligned Care
Champion a patient-first approach by providing clinicians with the resources and training they need to deliver exceptional, evidence-based care
Ensure that patient care is holistic, compassionate, non-punitive, and in line with best practices for substance use treatment, including our commitment to low-barrier, harm-reduction care
Foster a tightly integrated partnership with clinical leadership, ensuring that operational practices enable and enhance evidence-based care
Growth & Community Engagement
Partner with the Business Development team to strengthen relationships with community organizations, local health providers, and advocacy groups to build a strong community network around the clinic
Serve as a key operational liaison to hospital partners, ensuring a seamless, high-touch experience that reflects Steadfast's commitment to being a trusted extension of their care team — responsive, proactive, and solutions-oriented
Collaborate with other Steadfast Clinic Managers and leaders to share insights, align strategies, and drive operational excellence across the organization
Qualifications
Proven leadership experience managing outpatient clinic operationswithin a substance use disorder or behavioral health treatment setting
Direct experience operating within a harm-reduction, non-punitive care model
Track record of setting, monitoring, and achieving operational goals, with a focus on performance metrics and outcomes across a diverse team
Proficiency using data dashboards, behavioral-health EHR reporting tools, and Excel to track KPIs such as patient retention, access, and staff productivity
Skilled in leading data-driven performance improvement initiatives to elevate clinic performance and patient care quality
