The Poison Information Provider performs initial triage of calls and assists specialists in managing poisoned patients and follow-up care. They also provide public information and administrative support to the department staff.
Candidates must be high school graduates or GED holders and either students or graduates of an accredited health-science program. Proficiency in medical terminology, computer use, and the ability to pass a math examination within three months is required.
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Directors of the Poison Center, the Poison Information Provider (PIP) is responsible for providing initial triage of calls and assisting the Poison Information Specialists in management of home calls and follow-up calls for established patients. Under the direction of the Specialists, the PIP will assist in managing poisoned patients, provide information to the public, and provide administrative support to department staff. The PIP will never be scheduled to work alone, and never in a ratio of greater than two to one, PIP to Specialist. PIPs are responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of the Florida Poison Information Center and Tampa General Hospital.
