Corporate Accountant
Position Summary
The Corporate Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial management, accounting, and reporting functions of the company and its related corporate entities. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of corporate financial records, maintains balance sheet reconciliations, supports cash management and accounts payable processes, and assists with month-end and year-end close activities.
While primarily responsible for corporate accounting functions, this position also serves as a resource to the broader Accounting Department and may provide accounting support for the company's multifamily and commercial portfolios based on departmental needs, workload, and business priorities.
The Corporate Accountant works closely with the Controller, accounting team, and other departments across the organization to ensure financial transactions are accurately recorded, properly supported, and completed in accordance with established accounting practices and company deadlines.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to balance multiple priorities while consistently meeting deadlines in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This position reports to the Controller.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting
Assist with the preparation of accurate monthly financial statements for the company and related corporate entities.
Support the monthly financial close process and ensure assigned accounting activities are completed timely and accurately.
Prepare and record journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, account reclassifications, and other adjusting entries.
Prepare and maintain balance sheet account reconciliations, researching and resolving discrepancies as needed.
Maintain accurate general ledger activity and supporting documentation.
Assist with the accounting and reconciliation of payroll, employee benefits, corporate credit cards, and other company expenses.
Review financial activity for accuracy, proper coding, and appropriate supporting documentation.
Assist with year-end financial reporting, tax preparation, and audit requests as needed.
Cash Management & Banking
Monitor corporate cash balances and assist with cash flow management.
Prepare and review bank reconciliations for corporate accounts.
Assist with banking activity, transfers, deposits, and other cash management transactions.
Monitor outstanding transactions and research discrepancies or unusual activity.
Maintain accurate records related to corporate bank accounts and cash activity.
Support the Controller with cash flow reporting and financial planning as needed.
Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable
Review corporate accounts payable activity for accuracy, appropriate coding, documentation, and authorization.
Assist with invoice processing and payment preparation in accordance with established company procedures.
Monitor corporate accounts receivable and other amounts due to the company.
Research and resolve vendor, payment, and account discrepancies.
Assist with maintaining vendor records and supporting documentation.
Ensure corporate expenses are recorded in the appropriate accounting period and general ledger accounts.
Corporate & Intercompany Accounting
Record and reconcile transactions between the company and related entities.
Maintain intercompany balances and research and resolve discrepancies.
Assist with allocations of shared corporate expenses across departments, entities, properties, or other applicable cost centers.
Maintain schedules and supporting documentation for recurring corporate accounting activity.
Assist with accounting for fixed assets, prepaid expenses, accrued liabilities, and other corporate balance sheet accounts.
Support the Controller with maintaining consistent accounting practices across corporate entities.
Collaboration & Department Support
Partner with departments throughout the organization to ensure accurate coding, documentation, and reporting of financial activity.
Serve as a resource to the broader Accounting Department and provide support to multifamily and commercial accounting functions as needed.
Assist with property-level accounting activities, reconciliations, financial reporting, research, and other accounting functions during periods of increased workload, staffing coverage, or other business needs.
Collaborate with Multifamily and Commercial Accountants to research and resolve accounting discrepancies and ensure consistency across company financial records.
Respond to accounting questions and assist team members in resolving financial or transaction-related issues.
Communicate with vendors, financial institutions, payroll providers, benefit providers, and other external partners as needed.
Provide accounting support and financial information to company leadership as requested.
Promote timely and accurate financial processes by communicating accounting requirements and deadlines across the organization.
Additional Responsibilities
Provide accounting coverage and support across corporate, multifamily, and commercial accounting functions as assigned by the Controller.
Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting processes as requested.
Assist with special projects, system implementations, accounting system maintenance, and process improvements.
Identify opportunities to improve accounting procedures, internal controls, and workflow efficiencies.
Maintain organized and accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the Accounting Department and company operations.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
Five (5) or more years of accounting experience preferred.
Experience with corporate, general ledger, or property accounting strongly preferred.
Property management accounting experience, including multifamily or commercial real estate accounting, preferred.
Experience working with multiple entities or intercompany accounting preferred.
Experience using Yardi Voyager or similar accounting software preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including strong Excel skills.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting.
Ability to apply accounting knowledge across corporate and property-level accounting functions.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Ability to research discrepancies and independently follow issues through resolution.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and provide accounting support across multiple areas of the organization.

Work Environment
This position is primarily performed in an office environment. Following successful completion of training and based on business needs and performance, a hybrid work schedule may be available. Regular interaction with internal departments, company leadership, accounting team members, vendors, financial institutions, and other business partners is expected.
