Job Summary:  

The CD Tech serves as a caretaker and custodian for both clients and the facility. The primary responsibilities include monitoring client conduct, maintaining the cleanliness and order of the premises, orienting new residents to house rules and procedures, and supporting the counseling team. In the absence of the Program Manager, the CD Tech assumes responsibility for all safety matters.

The CD Tech must demonstrate self-confidence and sound individual judgment, the ability to de-escalate and resolve conflict within the client community, and a high level of crisis tolerance. This position requires the ability to respond professionally to medical emergencies, convey a positive and professional image to clients, staff, and visitors, and maintain strict client confidentiality.

$500 Hiring Bonus effective 03/01/26 (FT-A and FT-B positions eligible)

*Shift differential is $1/hr in addition to regular wage for weekend hours; $2/hr for overnight hours

Duties & Responsibilities:

Service

Demonstrates compassion, dignity, and respect in all client and visitor interactions.

• Manage and supervise client activity and daily responsibilities with a person-centered approach.
• Explain house rules, regulations, and procedures to incoming clients in a clear and respectful manner.
• Conduct client intakes, including documentation of medications, searching belongings, assigning keys and linens, and assisting with required documentation.
• Facilitate client discharges, including room cleaning, return of keys and linens, and assistance with documentation and storage of belongings.
• Greet visitors and ensure compliance with visiting policies, maintaining a welcoming and professional environment.
• Respond to client emergency medical needs in a timely and composed manner.
• Collect urinalysis samples and perform breath analysis testing as needed.

Integrity

Upholds ethical conduct, confidentiality, and compliance with policies and regulations.

• Understand and follow all policies and procedures related to client and program rules and regulations to ensure consistency in service delivery.
• Adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and agency policies related to the protection of client confidentiality.
• Understand and follow vulnerable adult policy and reporting procedures.
• Understand and follow incident/accident reporting policies and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with fire and safety codes and regulations.
• Understand and follow emergency fire and weather policies and procedures.
• Secure personal belongings of clients who depart for a period of 60 days or until disposition instructions are provided by the Program Manager.

Awareness

Communicates effectively and demonstrates empathy in all interactions with clients and staff.

• Communicate to staff any inappropriate or suspected inappropriate client behavior in a timely manner.
• Provide consistent feedback to counseling staff regarding client activities and behavioral observations.
• Address client periods of non-compliance and escalate issues to counseling staff and/or the Program Manager as appropriate.
• Manage client crisis situations following established procedures for communicating with clinical staff and management.
• Document and communicate physical health issues to the nurse and other program staff.
• Answer the telephone, log messages, check voicemail, and route messages appropriately.

Ownership

Takes responsibility for facility operations, documentation, and program consistency.

• Provide consistency in program operations by maintaining all client behavioral interventions communicated by counseling staff, including earned privileges and restrictions.
• Check and maintain the resident sign-out log, passes, and permissions, ensuring clients are present during appropriate times.
• Record all shift activities in the daily log accurately and thoroughly.
• Record and count all medications (new and refills) and document medication changes.
• Assist the nurse in requesting new medications and refills from the preferred pharmacy.
• Ensure premises are locked and secured; confirm unnecessary lights are off and appliances (coffee maker, washer, dryer, etc.) are turned off.
• Maintain adequate supply of linens, cleaning supplies, and office supplies in coordination with the Lead CD Tech.
• Complete demographic and statistical reports as directed.
• Document and communicate maintenance needs to maintenance staff; inform the Maintenance Supervisor and Program Manager of significant incidents, building emergencies, and major repair needs.
• Perform clerical duties as needed, including data entry, filing, copying, and light typing.
• Perform necessary duties as driver of the house vehicle.
• Assist maintenance staff with vehicle upkeep.

Resilience

Navigates challenges with professionalism, maintaining safety and stability for clients and staff.

• Handle interventions with program clients in the event of minor violations, applying sound judgment and de-escalation skills.
• Know and follow all program emergency procedures.
• Perform room checks or “rounds” to ensure all clients are present and safe.
• Ensure safety measures are followed, including carrying a cell phone and flashlight as appropriate, remaining within the perimeter of the property, contacting 911 for emergency services or intruder situations, and making no attempt to apprehend intruders.
• Perform searches of the facility and clients and their belongings as needed or scheduled.
• Supervise and record fire drills once per month.
• Maintain facility grounds, including light cleanup and general appearance of lawn and snow removal as needed.
• Understand and coordinate with the Program Manager or Maintenance Technician on maintenance tasks associated with general building wellness systems (heating, water, electric, etc.).

Requirements

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required. Education and/or experience in human services or a related field preferred.
• Highly dependable and effective in managing multiple tasks.
• CPR/First Aid certified or ability to be trained.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to maintain strict client confidentiality.
• Ability to convey a positive and professional image.
• Current TB Gold Test or ability to obtain one.
• Must pass a favorable DHS Rule 11 background check.
• Ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds.
• Valid state driver’s license required (depending on position); positive driving record required (subject to periodic review).

Work Environment & Schedule

• Position operates in a residential treatment facility environment.
• Although management makes every effort to accommodate individual preferences, business needs may at times require overtime, shift work, holiday coverage, rotating schedules, or schedule changes

Physical Requirements

• Repetitive movement of hands and fingers – typing and/or writing.
• Frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
• Ability to reach with hands and arms.
• Ability to communicate, converse with, and exchange information effectively.
