Perform a variety of manual labor tasks including operating light equipment, maintaining city facilities, and ensuring street cleanliness. Responsibilities also include event setup, landscaping, and assisting in disaster response and recovery.
Requires a high school diploma or GED and twelve months of experience in unskilled manual labor. A valid State of Florida Driver's License is mandatory.
Salary Range:
$14.00 - $50.00Employees in this class perform a wide variety of manual labor. However, as work experience is gained, employees may be assigned to work of more than ordinary difficulty. Work is usually closely supervised, and the employee receives specific work instructions at the beginning of each new assignment. Constant supervision is not necessary for routine or repetitive tasks.
The following illustrates examples of some of the essential duties and responsibilities of the Service Worker. There may be other essential functions, not listed below, in order to accomplish the tasks as presented by the Supervisor.
Operates light equipment as needed i.e.; mowers, sod cutters, mini excavators, backhoes.
Carry out the delivery, setup and breakdown for city wide special events, as needed.
Maintains street cleanliness and picks up debris.
Cleans, maintains and performs minor repairs to City facilities, including sidewalks.
Paints City facilities both exterior and interior.
Collects debris and loads it into a truck.
Loads and unloads trucks.
Cuts grass, weeds and brush and cares for shrubs, flowers and grass.
Performs the necessary related duties to assist in disaster response and recovery.
Sweeps streets, gutters and alleys and loads collected waste it into a truck.
Cleans storm sewers, culverts, drains and ditches.
Collects debris and loads it into a truck.
Loads and unloads trucks.
Moves and carries heavy material such as pipe, lumber, gravel, sand and furniture.
Paints over graffiti, as needed.
Ability to perform light and heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.
Ability to understand and follow specific oral or written instructions.
Ability to drive a truck, if required.
Ability to acquire knowledge and proficiency in the use of common hand tools and mechanical equipment.
Significant walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, sitting, standing, pushing and pulling.
Ability to lift heavy objects.
The following are some of the physical requirements associated with this position. Reasonable accommodation may be made by the City to enable an individual to perform the essential duties/functions of the position.
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment such as hand tools, etc.
Must be able to see and distinguish colors, hear and smell.
Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Work involves walking more than a mile per day, climbing stairs and ladders, moving, reaching, handling, bending, and stooping for periods of time.
Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of 25 to 50 pounds.
Graduation from an accredited high school/institution or possession of a state high school equivalency diploma (GED) and twelve months experience in performing unskilled, light, or heavy manual labor. Experience may substitute for education on a year for year basis.
Have a current valid State of Florida Driver’s License.
