The Role

Join Berkley Re Asia in a role that sits at the centre of underwriting operations, data quality, process improvement, and team coordination.

This is not a traditional administration role. As Underwriting Operations & Austomation Specialist, you will play a key role in how reinsurance business is captured, managed, reported, and improved. You will lead a small business support function, work closely with senior underwriting stakeholders, and help shape more efficient ways of working through systems, data, automation, and AI-enabled tools.

This is an opportunity for someone with insurance or reinsurance experience who is ready to step into a broader leadership role — one that combines technical understanding, operational discipline, stakeholder management, and a strong interest in using AI to improve business processes.

 

The Role

Working within the underwriting function, you will lead business support activity for the Singapore team, helping ensure reinsurance risk information is accurately captured, maintained, and available to support underwriting decisions, reporting, and business performance.

You will work closely with underwriters, Business Support Officers, Technical Accounting, Claims, Actuarial, and external business partners to keep information flowing accurately and efficiently across the underwriting process.

A key part of this role will be identifying better ways to work. You will support reporting and data analysis, maintain Excel-based reports, and use automation, macros, and AI-assisted tools where appropriate to improve accuracy, efficiency, and consistency.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a small business support team that plays a key role in the underwriting process.

• Ensure reinsurance records, documentation and system information are accurate, complete and well managed

• Partner with underwriters and internal teams to keep workflows moving and resolve information gaps

• Use Excel, automation and AI tools to improve reporting, reduce manual effort and strengthen process accuracy

• Coordinate team priorities and support effective resource planning across the business support function

• Maintain confident, professional relationships with internal stakeholders and external business partners

The Candidate - Skills, Qualifications & Experience

You are highly organised, detail-focused, and confident working in a technical insurance or reinsurance environment. You understand that accurate information, clear processes, and strong follow-through are essential to effective underwriting operations.

You are comfortable working with systems, data, documentation, and multiple stakeholders. You can prioritise competing demands, keep processes moving, and support others to work consistently and efficiently.

Importantly, you bring practical experience using AI tools. You are not just interested in AI as a concept — you have used AI or automation tools to improve the way work is completed, whether through drafting, checking, reporting, analysis, workflow improvement, or reducing manual effort.

 

Essential

• 3–5 years’ experience within an insurance and/or reinsurance environment

• Practical experience using AI tools in a business or operational environment

• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel

• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and complete work efficiently

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Ability to work under pressure and contribute effectively in a team environment

• A practical problem-solving mindset and interest in improving processes

• Diploma, degree, or higher qualification in a business-related field

• Insurance qualification
