The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation is responsible for the policies, legislation, regulations, programs, and services that enable Alberta’s agriculture and food sectors to flourish and contribute to Alberta’s economic recovery and growth. The Statistics and Data Development Section provide timely, unbiased data, information, analysis and statistical expertise in support of evidence-based policy development and informed decision-making by the Ministry, partners and other clients in growing Alberta’s agri-food industry.

In this fast-paced and impactful role, you’ll manage, collect, update and provide timely agricultural and economic data and information that is used for data-driven analysis, policy development, and informed decision-making that supports the Ministry, producers and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Accurately enter, capture, validate, and maintain agricultural and economic data to support analysis, modeling, and reporting.
Lead the preparation and publication of the Weekly Crop and Livestock Market Review.
Manage and update statistical databases, ensuring data integrity, accessibility, and adherence to established methodologies.
Perform quality control through regular accuracy checks, documentation, and validation of data series.
Maintain comprehensive data files, metadata, and supporting documentation, including source details and update cycles.
Collaborate with data providers and subject matter experts to validate data and identify new or improved data series.
Apply basic statistical analysis to meet client needs and support informed decision-making.
Develop and deliver reports, data tables used by subject matter experts for commodity market analysis, trend identification, forecasting, and policy evaluation.
Organize and manage electronic and physical records in compliance with Government of Alberta policies and applicable legislation (e.g. Protection of Privacy Act).
Support surveys, and data development initiatives through data collection, reporting assistance, and contributions to projects and publications.

Qualifications
Minimum Recruitment Standard:
Two-year diploma in a related field such as Agri-Business, Agriculture Management, Business Administration, Data Management, or Business Intelligence
No experience required.
Or equivalent as described below.
Equivalencies may be considered - directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Requirements:
Knowledge of agricultural and/or economic data.
Basic statistical analysis and research skills.
Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication.
General knowledge of Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) - Appropriate and confidential handling and storage of sensitive data and information under the Act is crucial.
Strong project management and organizational skills.
Familiarity with various computer software (such as M365) for spreadsheet and database management, data visualizations, design and report generation.
Assets:
Experience with database monitoring, management and automation.
Familiarity of R, Python, Power BI, Adobe Pro, etc., would be a significant asset.
Office located in Edmonton at the J.G.O’Donoghue Building (7000-113 Street, Edmonton, AB T6H 5T6).
Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week.
Monday to Friday (08:15 am-16:30 pm).
