At ATB, we exist to make it possible for our clients, team members and communities. Our purpose is more than aspirational. It's a real commitment we live every day through our values (what we call the ATB ID).
Life at ATB is about more than work. In fact, we’re consistently recognized as one of Canada's top employers thanks to our high-care, high-performance culture, upheld by the three commitments we make to our team members:
Impact in action: No matter where you are in the organization, you're empowered to make an impact in the lives of our clients and communities.

About the role
This position has a hybrid work arrangement. On average, this means 1-3 days on-site per week. Please note that this is subject to change due to business priorities.
ATB is seeking a Director, Banking Book Financial Risk Management Oversight to lead the strategic development and rigorous oversight of our banking book financial risk management (FRM) frameworks. This pivotal leadership role will transform our risk oversight from a compliance-focused approach to one that provides valuable analytical insights, fortifying ATB's financial resilience and supporting sustainable growth.
Accountabilities
As the Director, Banking Book Financial Risk Oversight, you will provide strategic direction, leadership, and operational success over the Banking Book Financial Risk Oversight function.
You will lead the transformation of the team from a compliance-focused function to a value-add provider of deep analytical insights, building out the team, frameworks, and capabilities to deliver robust independent oversight. Acting as a senior expert advisor across the second line of defense (2LoD), you will manage and mentor a dedicated risk team while ensuring the integrity of risk measurement methodologies, models, and assumptions.
Strategic Leadership & Governance
Lead the design, execution, and continuous enhancement of advanced financial risk management frameworks for the banking book, including methodologies for Interest Rate Risk in the Banking Book (IRRBB), Credit Spread Risk in the Banking Book (CSRBB), and liquidity risk.
Own, maintain, and spearhead the periodic review, analysis, and calibration of IRRBB, and Liquidity risk limits, ensuring alignment with risk appetite and business strategy.
Maintain and develop all policies, procedures, and frameworks related to banking book financial risk, partnering with Policy, Governance, & Controls (PG&C) and Financial Risk Management (FRM).
Act as a primary 2LoD challenge function for Treasury's risk management strategies, models, and underlying assumptions.
Support regulatory examinations, review responses, and coordinate adaptation to regulatory changes in partnership with Audit and Compliance.
Play a critical role in shaping the firm's risk culture and providing agile strategic advisory for new business lines and products.
Banking Book Financial Risk Oversight & Analytics
Deliver critical challenge and rigorous oversight of all banking book financial risk exposures, ensuring robust daily monitoring and strict adherence to established limits and policies.
Oversee independent reporting and granular variance analysis of key risk metrics, including Net Interest Income (NII) Sensitivity, Duration, Economic Value of Equity (EVE) Sensitivity, Liquidity Coverage Ratio (LCR), and Net Stable Funding Ratio (NSFR).
Conduct in-depth oversight of underlying balance sheet risk drivers, assumptions, and data quality to ensure high integrity in daily reporting.
Direct real-time limit excess management, variance investigations, and breach escalation protocols across lines of defense.
Drive the continuous enhancement of balance sheet risk reporting and analytics to transition the function into a mature, proactive risk vertical.
Model Validation & Strategic Data Architecture
Lead the 2LoD review and challenge of all IRRBB and Liquidity risk models, including complex behavioural models and assumptions.
Formalize and document the 2LoD model challenge process and oversee model backtesting processes to ensure structural soundness and accuracy.
Skills, experience & requirements
Required Qualifications
A University degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Financial Engineering, or a highly quantitative discipline.
8+ years of progressive experience working within financial institutions in a 2nd line financial risk management or Treasury/ALM role focused on banking book risk.
Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience in IRRBB, CSRBB, and Liquidity risk frameworks.
Professional certifications such as FRM, CFA, or PRMIA are an asset.
Core Technical Skills
Mastered expertise in banking book financial risk management, balance sheet dynamics, structural interest rate risk, and liquidity frameworks.
Deep technical understanding of risk measurement methodologies including NII Sensitivity, EVE Sensitivity, Duration, LCR, NSFR, and behavioural modeling (e.g., non-maturity deposits, prepayment models).
Strong familiarity with core banking systems, risk engines, and financial data analytics platforms.
Quantitative data proficiency utilizing tools such as Python, SQL, Excel/VBA, Bloomberg BQL, and Google BigQuery (DEEP data architecture).
Leadership & Interpersonal Attributes
Proven people leader capable of recruiting, mentoring, and leading high-performing risk professionals, cultivating technical excellence and analytical rigor.
Elite stakeholder management and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to deliver credible, robust challenge to Treasury and executive leadership.
Strong collaborative mindset to build effective cross-functional partnerships across Technology (CXT), PG&C, Audit, and Compliance.
Salary Range
The salary range for this role is between $140,000 - $160,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
