Responsibilities

Oversee the day-to-day coordination of a civil underground crew in the removal and placement of underground utilities. Lead and mentor crew members while completing required documentation, site inspections, and hazard assessments.

Requirements

Requires an experienced civil underground foreman with a valid Class 5 driver's license and the ability to perform heavy physical labor in adverse weather. Ground Disturbance 201 and Confined Space training are considered assets.

Full job description

Park Paving Ltd. has been locally owned and operated for over 50 years as one of the largest road construction contractors in Edmonton, and we are looking for an EXPERIENCED CIVIL UNDERGROUND FOREMAN to join our team. This is a full-time seasonal position that offers competitive wage with benefits.

Primary duties include overseeing the day-to-day coordination of a civil underground crew in the removal and placement of underground utilities as part of infrastructure construction and rehabilitation projects. You will be expected to lead, mentor and monitor the performance of your crew, while also completing the required documentation and reporting associated with civil underground projects and crew supervision, (e.g. timesheets, site inspections & hazard assessments)

This is a physically demanding position that requires the ability to:

  • Work long hours, overtime, and consecutive days as required.
  • Must be able to perform all job duties in a wide range of (adverse) weather conditions.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, balance, and climb.
  • Exerting heavy physical effort (handling average weight objects up to 50lbs safely, perform labour activities).
  • Ability to operate equipment as required to complete the project

Additional duties are as follows:

  • Complete daily hazard assessment/toolbox meetings as required that focus on your daily planned scope of work.
  • Ability to evaluate and adjust work plan based on ground conditions
  • Understand and utilize Ground disturbance best practices; including various shoring methods and safe excavation practices
  • Understand grades and general survey
  • Ensure sites are clean and properly maintained
  • Ensure tools are kept secure, clean, and in good working order
  • Understand and implement proper lifting & rigging techniques onsite
  • Ensure all work being performed by employees (including yourself) is in compliance with all legislation and company safe work policies and procedures
  • Delegate crew members to complete daily pre-equipment checks, checklists and preventative maintenance
  • Have full understanding/compliance of City/ Epcor specifications for the tasks you are completing
  • Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to maintain professionalism even in high-pressure situations with other workers, consultants, or members of the public
  • Ability to read and understand drawings
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's license
  • Ability to operate equipment if required
  • Able to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Able to work Monday -Friday and when necessary overtime & weekends
  • Valid Ground Disturbance 201 Standard training (Alberta) is an asset
  • Valid Confined Space Monitor/Entry training is an asset

Pay Scale: $38 - $46 per hour based on experience

They will also possess a strong drive to contribute to the team's success by working with operators and other crew members to perform a wide range of duties. Successful candidates will also be able to maintain a culture of safety and accountability while working with their direct supervisors, and other employees; all while maintaining an positive and respectful work environment.

Successful candidates must possess a valid driver's license and have a driving record free of major infractions, and must pass a medical/fitness exam, as conditions of employment.
