Security Site Manager
Location: Industrial Site near Gibbons, Alberta Schedule: Approximately 40 hours per week | Primarily Monday–Friday Compensation: Approximately $40/hour + $21.50 travel allowance per shift Position Type: Local position — not camp-based or FIFO
About the Role
Backwoods is seeking an experienced and motivated Security Site Manager to oversee the delivery of security services at a large-scale industrial oil and gas facility near Gibbons, Alberta.
This is a hands-on site leadership position for someone who understands that effective security management is about more than managing guards. The Security Site Manager will be the primary link between the facility, Backwoods Security, and the site security team, ensuring that client expectations are understood, communicated, and consistently met.
You will serve as the main point of contact for the client regarding security operations while also being a key resource and point of contact for the security guards working at site. You will build strong relationships across the facility, identify concerns early, resolve issues, and ensure the security program continues to meet the needs of the client and the facility.
This position is primarily Monday–Friday and approximately 40 hours per week. Flexibility in working hours is important, as the manager will need to regularly connect with both day and night security personnel. For example, there may be occasions where a 12:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. shift is worked to ensure meaningful engagement with the full security team.
This is a local position. Candidates must be able to reliably travel to the site near Gibbons, Alberta. This is not a camp-based or fly-in/fly-out position.
Site Leadership & Client Relationship
A major part of this role is being the liaison between the facility and Backwoods Security.
The Security Site Manager will:
Act as the primary Backwoods point of contact for the facility's security-related needs, concerns, and expectations.
Develop and maintain a strong, professional working relationship with facility representatives, contractors, and key site personnel.
Regularly communicate with the client to understand their expectations, assess satisfaction, identify concerns, and proactively address areas for improvement.
Communicate client expectations clearly to Security Supervisors and guards and ensure they are consistently understood and followed.
Act as the primary point of contact for security guards at the site, providing leadership, direction, support, and accountability.
Maintain open and consistent communication between the client, Backwoods management, supervisors, and the security team.
Identify issues before they become larger problems and take ownership of finding practical solutions.
Represent Backwoods professionally and confidently in all interactions with the client and site stakeholders.
Conduct regular site visits and spend meaningful time engaging with both day- and night-shift personnel.
Ensure the security program continues to align with the facility owner's mandate and Backwoods' contractual obligations.
Key Responsibilities
Security Operations
Manage the overall delivery of the Facility Security Program in accordance with client policies, procedures, post orders, and contractual requirements.
Ensure security personnel are consistently meeting client expectations and following established access control and security procedures.
Ensure post orders remain current, relevant, and understood by all Security personnel.
Coordinate and oversee emergency response training, drills, and procedures with the Security team and Facility Emergency Response team.
Respond to, investigate, document, and review security incidents with designated facility representatives.
Review security protocols and procedures annually and update them based on facility requirements, identified risks, and emerging threats.
Monitor security operations, identify gaps, and implement corrective actions when required.
Team Leadership & Development
Provide strong day-to-day leadership, coaching, and support to the site security team.
Work with supervisors to ensure guards receive consistent and thorough training and development.
Monitor team performance through KPIs, performance evaluations, regular communication, and one-on-one meetings.
Address performance, attendance, conduct, and employee concerns in partnership with Backwoods HR and management.
Promote a positive, professional, and accountable security culture.
Lead by example and demonstrate strong communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
Staffing & Administration
Manage site staffing requirements and ensure appropriate coverage is maintained at all times.
Coordinate scheduling, vacation planning, absence coverage, and staffing adjustments.
Participate in recruitment, conduct interviews, and support the hiring process for site security positions.
Review and approve timesheets and ensure accurate daily ticket submissions to the client.
Monitor site-related security expenses and assist with cost tracking and budget management.
Manage Backwoods- and client-supplied security equipment and ensure company-owned assets are properly maintained and accounted for.
Ensure all contractual requirements are understood and followed.
Safety, HSE & Compliance
Support and enforce the Backwoods Security Safety Program and the facility's HSE program.
Work closely with Backwoods HSE and facility representatives on security-related HSE requirements.
Ensure Security personnel understand and comply with applicable safety policies, procedures, and site requirements.
Ensure required training, certifications, and documentation remain current.
Support the development of a strong safety culture within the Security team.
What We're Looking For
