Position Summary:
Manage the operational activities of the Distribution Center including warehousing, transportation, and physical distribution of finished goods to customers. Provide high level of customer service consistent with optimum distribution and transportation costs. Provide operational control of the distribution center within established company policies, procedures, budgets and cost objectives.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Establish and submit an annual operating budget for the department. Set realistic and challenging operating cost goals. Recommend major capital expenditures for the facility and equipment.
Select, hire, train, and evaluate personnel to attain the highest standards of service and optimum productivity levels.
Establish and maintain an ongoing union avoidance program through strong two-way communication with associates.
Oversee the daily efforts of the shipping, receiving, storage and handling of all finished goods, raw ingredients and packaging products.
Determine that warehouse equipment and labor are deployed properly to assure required service levels consistent with company programs, customer requirements and cost objectives.
Review warehouse productivity measurements and establish standards for acceptable levels of performance. Evaluates employee performance against key measurements and initiate corrective action to achieve a high level of performance.
Insure the facility is maintained in such a manner that is consistent with operational and sanitary needs that are in compliance with Federal, State and Local agency guidelines and established company procedures.
Establish security and routines that are consistent with levels of risk exposure. Review and audit policies and procedures as published to protect company assets, associates and maintain a strong security program.
Maintain close working relationships with customer service, inventory control, transportation, production, and sales personnel to assure that all functions and responsibilities effecting the distribution center are coordinated in an efficient manner.
Actively supports initiatives and programs as mandated by corporate.
Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree in Logistics, Warehousing, Transportation field or related equivalent work experience.
Distribution Center management experience of 8 to 10 years with a minimum of 5 years at management level in an equivalent size operation.
Knowledge and Skills:
Financial skills in budget management and analysis.
Working knowledge of computer systems, RE: Windows, Excel, Word, AS-400, RF locator system.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Extensive experience in Personnel Administration for Distribution Center employees.
Working knowledge of Distribution, Warehousing, and Transportation disciplines.
Experience in and working knowledge of Customer Service procedures.
Efficient planning and organizational skills, cooperation and understanding of subordinates, effective at multi tasking and prioritizing.
