Director of Investor Relations
Position Summary
The Associated is seeking a Director of Investor Relations to play a key role in supporting its community fund by cultivating and managing donor and institutional client relationships, overseeing investment activity, and ensuring the effective execution of operational and administrative processes. Serving as a trusted resource for stakeholders, this position collaborates closely with investment managers, sub-accountants, and external vendors while preparing timely, accurate materials for investment committee meetings. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, analytical finance professional who thrives in a collaborative environment, demonstrates exceptional organizational and relationship management skills, and is committed to continuous process improvement, adaptability, and operational excellence.
This is a full-time, hybrid position that requires a minimum of three days per week in the office.
Key Responsibilities
Governance and Committee Leadership
Serve as staff liaison to Investment Committee leadership.
Prepare, consolidate and distribute committee meeting materials, including investment summaries, fund performance and activity reports.
Track action items and follow-up items from committee meetings and coordinate timely resolution.
Generate comprehensive quarterly and annual reports detailing fund activity, grant volumes, and key financial metrics for leadership and committee review
Relationship Management
Serve as the primary relationship manager for major fundholders, supporting foundations, professional advisors, and key stakeholders.
Support cultivation and retention efforts for high-capacity donors and institutional partners.
Represent The Associated at donor, foundation, and investment-related meetings and events.
Participate in meetings with investor base to present the Community Fund’s performance, updates to the portfolio, and communicate insights coming from the investment committee meetings
Oversight, Accountability & Innovation
Oversee all investment administration activities to ensure accuracy, compliance, and adherence to donor intent.
Establish and monitor internal controls, service standards, and operating procedures.
Evaluate vendor performance and manage relationships with custodians, investment managers, consultants, and service providers.
Continuously evaluate existing workflows and identify opportunities to streamline processes, reduce manual effort, and improve accuracy.
Champion the adoption of technology tools and system enhancements that improve efficiency and data integrity.
Investment Monitoring & Reporting
Work collaboratively with the sub-accountant to confirm and reconcile monthly fund valuations.
Coordinate with outside vendors to obtain updated investment values for supporting foundation accounts in a timely manner.
Maintain organized records of all investment reports, valuations, and related correspondence.
Grant Review & Deposit Management
Review and authorize outgoing grant disbursements to ensure accuracy, proper documentation, and alignment with foundation and fund guidelines.
Monitor grant expenditures for compliance with restriction requirements and donor intent
Collaborate with program staff to resolve discrepancies and ensure proper coding of all grant activity.
Review and approve incoming deposits, including contributions, investment transfers, and other revenue, ensuring accurate account coding and documentation.
Build relationships with donor and investor base to assist with their inquiries, transaction questions, and ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in nonprofit finance, community foundation services, or investment operations.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to build, audit, and maintain complex spreadsheets and financial models.
Exceptional attention to detail with demonstrated proofreading and quality-control skills.
Experience in donor relations, client services, or a customer-facing financial role.
Familiarity with investment reporting, fund valuations, or working with external investment managers.
Proven track record of identifying and implementing process improvements.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly.
Compensation
Starting salary: $100,000; salary commensurate with experience.
