Summary
The Director, Wrestling Operations primary role is to provide administrative and logistical support to the wrestling program and coaching staff. This position will manage/execute internal team operations and logistics including, but not limited to, team travel, team meals, on-campus recruiting, and off-campus recruiting for coaching staff. Additionally, this role will support our external efforts by designing/executing a social media strategy to increase followers and engagement across platforms.
Scope of Impact
The Director of Wrestling Operations will work directly with the coaching staff to ensure the Cadet-Athletes have an extraordinary experience at The United States Military Academy. Position will work on immediate needs of the program and provide value in many areas.
Level of Decision Making
This position will have a moderate level of decision making that will most often be exercised in planning/executing travel itineraries for team travel and recruiting visits.
Success Factors
Success in this position will be evaluated by the Supervisor on the employee’s performance in a variety of areas, including but not limited to: Commitment to AWPAA Mission, Vision and Values; and supporting the AWPAA Strategic Plan and Priority Results.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
25% Staff & Administrative Support
Assist with all administrative coordination for coaching staff, including but not limited to off-campus recruiting, credit card reconciliation, awards ordering, and purchase orders.
Liaison with the Compliance Office for all required paperwork and ARMS and/or Teamworks requirements.
Coordinate all aspects of Wrestling Camp and Clinics logistics and operations with the appropriate staff within the athletics department.
Assist in coordinating match-day needs with corresponding departments (Operations, Facilities, Marketing, etc.).
Assist in Nike gameday gear ordering, inventory, and management.
Regularly review and maintain oversight of the wrestling budget on behalf of the Head Coach.
Attend all wrestling staff, Athletic Department, and other required meetings.
Engage and communicate regularly with alumni and friends of the wrestling program.
35% Sport Operations
Assist the Head Coach in maintaining an accurate roster in all required software platforms for the Athletics Department and the Academy.
Liaison to Athletics Academic Services on the academic success and monitoring of the team.
Responsible for all aspects of team travel coordination, including flights, buses, rentals, hotels, meals, per diem distribution, practice times, and itinerary generation.
Responsible for coordinating and executing all official and unofficial visits, including compliance forms, itineraries, travel, lodging, and meals.
Oversee sport operations.
25% Social Strategy & Content Creation
Work in conjunction with the Strategic Communications area (ACOMM, Social Strategy, and Creative Video) to develop and execute a social media strategy that grows audience engagement across Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), and other social channels.
Assist with the creation of recruiting graphics, including but not limited to nametags, itineraries, signage, PowerPoints, and offer letters.
Assist with the creation and execution of a weekly prospective student-athlete social media campaign, including but not limited to X direct messaging and “good luck” messaging during high school seasons.
Assist with the management of the X and Instagram accounts for the wrestling program.
Ensure at all times that content is consistent with USMA and AWPAA goals and mission.
Conduct regular SWOT analysis on creative strategies used by other wrestling programs.
10% Special Events & Projects
Coordinate Senior Day.
Coordinate the postseason team banquet.
Coordinate pre–R-Day social.
5% Other Duties as Assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities
Interviewing, onboarding and providing direction to Wrestling team managers.
Work Conditions & Physical Requirements
Perform duties in a fast-paced, ever-changing work environment.
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 50% of the time.
Occasionally moves boxes weighing up to up to 30 lbs.
The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
Constantly operates a computer, printer, and phone.
The person in this position frequently communicates with team members, United States Military Academy (“USMA”) staff and vendors.
Occasionally works in outdoor weather conditions.
Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Travel
Day and overnight travel may occur for athletic team competitions, professional meetings, and other events associated with the operations of the Wrestling program and Army West Point Athletics.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited institution.
2-3 years’ experience working full-time at a NCAA institution, professional sports organization, and/or other elite sporting institutions (e.g. USOC, etc.).
Experience in administrative leadership, decision-making, management, and supervision.
Previous leadership role in a nationally recognized athletic department.
Demonstrate good judgment and the ability to respond quickly and deal successfully under pressure and in a very open and public environment.
Leads by example with high personal expectations, character, and appropriate advocacy for the department.
Ability to Build and Maintain Relationships.
Excellent Organizational and Communication Skills.
The ability to work evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong organization, communication, and operations skills required.
Should be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite and demonstrate ability to learn new software (photoshop) if required.
Must be congenial, enjoy working in a challenging environment, and be willing to serve the needs of Cadet-athletes at West Point.
Additional Eligibility Requirements
Must be eligible to work in the United States of America, without sponsorship.
Must be eligible to work on a military installation, including a willingness to submit to a background screen.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Pay Range
$63,000-$70,000
