We’re hiring a Surgical Medical Assistant to join our Mohs Surgery team at Atlantic Dermatology in the Wilmington, NC area. This role will work closely with one of our Mohs surgeons, supporting surgical procedures, patient care, post-operative follow-up, clinical documentation, and efficient clinic flow.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
Room patients, obtain vital signs, review medical history, and document intake information in the EMR.
Coordinate surgical patient flow and support efficient clinic operations.
Prepare procedure rooms, surgical trays, instruments, and equipment for Mohs and other dermatologic procedures.
Complete pre-operative patient intake and provide education regarding procedures and expectations within scope.
Prepare and disinfect surgical sites and assist with administration of local anesthetic as directed.
Assist the physician throughout surgical procedures, including passing instruments, cutting sutures, and supporting hemostasis.
Apply dressings and review post-operative wound care and discharge instructions with patients.
Prepare and process pathology specimens accurately.
Clean, sterilize, maintain, and inventory surgical equipment and instruments.
Maintain medication and supply inventory and ensure surgical areas remain organized and fully stocked.
Accurately document patient information and procedure-related notes in the EMR.
Support post-surgical follow-up visits and additional clinical care as needed.
Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required.
Previous experience in a medical or clinical setting preferred; Dermatology, Mohs, or surgical experience is a plus.
Medical Assistant certification or completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred, unless otherwise required by state law.
Experience with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) preferred.
Comfortable supporting surgical and procedural patient care, including pre-operative preparation, assisting during procedures, specimen handling, wound care, and post-operative follow-up.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to providing an exceptional patient experience.
Excellent attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced surgical environment.
Collaborative, dependable, and comfortable working closely with physicians and other members of the clinical team.
Ability and willingness to learn new surgical workflows, technology, and dermatology-specific procedures.

Licensure/Certifications/Education
Education & Experience:
1-2 years of recent Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or other clinical patient care experience preferred.
Completion of a Medical Assistant Program, Certified Nursing Assistant program or completion of a bachelor’s degree program in the pre-med or pre-physician assistant track preferred.
CPR certified preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Standing and walking for extended periods of time
Moderate amount of talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing.
Use of hands and fingers.
Handling of materials such as paper, supplies, etc.
Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemicals and sharp objects.
