Full job description
Description
The Clearing is a management consulting firm that helps leaders identify underlying causes of organizational obstacles, resolve highly complex challenges, prioritize the fewest, most important initiatives to tackle regardless of conflicting needs, and make informed decisions in the context of an agreed-upon mission, vision, and strategy. We help create peak performance organizations through strategy, organizational development, leadership training, and change management. Our experienced consultants bring a powerful blend of analytic and creative skills from diverse fields, including change management, finance, engineering, communications, education, policy, design, and corporate leadership.
Consultants typically lead a work lane or serve as a Project Leader for a small, lower-complexity project with lower stakes. Consultants own project-related tasks, create and drive client deliverables, support project financial management, and demonstrate effective client relationship management. Consultants regularly contribute to proposal development and are expected to grow in their understanding of project management (including financial management) and business development support (e.g., business capture efforts). Consultants are expected to regularly manage up with senior members of their team and leverage senior staff expertise to collaborate on deliverables.
What You’ll Do
Manage project lane(s) or small projects to completion by scoping tasks and managing resources (i.e., time, budget, people) effectively; forecast and track lane/project financial performance and contribute to invoicing reviews and approvals
Develop and manage the production of high-quality client-facing deliverables
Support the planning and execution of stakeholder engagement activities such as interviews, working sessions, and readiness assessments
Facilitate and participate in client-facing meetings to achieve identified, desired outcomes
Support the design, coordination, and logistics of external and internal meetings; apply active listening skills and contribute to knowledge capture during meetings
Build relationships with stakeholders to assess readiness, address resistance, and promote change adoption
Develop communications to support user understanding, engagement, and adoption
Develop trusted professional relationships with clients
Support and/or lead research, data gathering, and analysis to inform the development of client solutions; synthesize and present results clearly
Showcase critical thinking skills to evaluate needs, make recommendations, and partner with team members to refine thinking and approaches to client challenges
Participate in business development and networking opportunities
Contribute to proposal development (writing and coordination)
Support project financial management, as needed
Compensation
The projected salary range for this position is between $80,000 and $100,000 annually. Actual compensation and starting salaries are determined by various factors, including the candidate's education, experience, knowledge, skills, certifications, clearance level, and internal equity. Once at The Clearing, movement through pay bands is based on performance. Base annual salary is just one component of The Clearing’s total compensation philosophy and approach. Employees are eligible to participate in The Clearing's robust benefits programs, including our incentive compensation (bonus) programs. Please refer to our Careers Page online for a complete list of benefits.
Requirements
Active Secret clearance (or have had one within the past two years)
Bachelor’s degree
4+ years of experience, preferably in management consulting or another professional service or client-facing environment related to change management, stakeholder engagement, communications, IT modernization, and/or management
Strong critical thinking/problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including client-facing communication
Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management
Flexible and adaptable mindset to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-paced, high-stakes client environments
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States now and in the future without sponsorship
Willingness and ability to travel to and work at client sites in the surrounding DC and Northern Virginia metro areas; occasional travel outside of these regions could be expected (5%)
While performing duties of this job, an employee may be required to perform any, or all of the following: attend meetings in and out of the office, travel (sometimes extensively); occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand; communicate effectively (both orally and in writing); ability to effectively use computers and other electronic and standard office equipment; and occasionally exerting up to 10 pounds to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Work is primarily sedentary and involves sitting for several hours at a time. Occasionally, walking, climbing stairs, and standing occur in this role.
