Student Success Advisor for School of Professional Studies 

 

Salary Range: 60k to 63k (Salary determination is based on experience & qualifications)

Trinity Washington University seeks a dynamic Student Success Advisor for the School of Professional Studies. The Student Success Advisor at Trinity Washington University is year-around, full-time staff member with Student Affairs: Center for Student Success. The purpose of the Center for Student Success is to improve student enrollment, persistence, and completion through an integrated, systematic advising and academic success program across the university that includes the effective use of Trinity’s Starfish case management platform, data-analytics, and other student success tools.

 

The Student Success Advisors are part of a team focused on ensuring student success at Trinity Washington University through close and continuous attention to student academic performance and co-curricular needs, personal challenges and professional ambitions.  Advisors must possess superior interpersonal talents, a deep interest in the well-being and progress of students through college, knowledge of contemporary research, and best practices that encourage student success of Trinity’s student body which includes more than 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students, including about 1,000 women in Trinity’s historic women’s college, the College of Arts & Sciences.  Another 1,200 women and men enroll in associate, baccalaureate, and master’s degree programs in the School of Education, School of Professional Studies, School of Business and Graduate Studies, and School of Nursing and Health Professions. 

 

Student Success Advisors are crossed trained to support students in any unit but are assigned a caseload within distinct populations; they engage in intensive outreach to students assigned to them in order to provide wrap around holistic support.

 

This Student Success Advisor role will be assigned to a case-load of students enrolled in our School of Professional Studies, who are primarily adult students taking classes online, or in person; at night or on weekends; in semester-long or accelerated formats. 

 

Education Requirements Qualifications:

 

  • Master’s Degree required in an appropriate area of specialization.
  • Experience working in a related student-support role.
  • Knowledge of best-practices in advising.
  • High degree of organization and ability to follow through on tasks.

 

Responsibilities & Functions:

 

  • Provide individualized holistic academic counseling and scholarship support to a case load of advisees to enhance retention and success.
  • Support students to understand the implications of financial aid and how this impacts their progress and success. 
  • Identify and connect students with on and off campus resources to support students in their success.
  • Engage in intrusive and targeted outreach in response to students who are identified as struggling academically.
  • Be available and responsive to students, including working as a team to ensure office coverage.
  • Advise students regarding class selection and approve schedule requests in a timely manner. 
  • Maintain accurate and detailed student records, including academic plans.
  • Ensure that students are provided with accurate and up to date knowledge of curriculum and program requirements.
  • Monitor and respond to alerts in Starfish, Trinity’s Case Management system.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to take a holistic case-management approach.
  • Knowledge of best-practices in advising.
  • Well-developed academic counseling techniques.
  • Strong record management skills.
  • High degree of organization, attention to detail and ability to follow through on tasks.
  • Candidates should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, computer competency and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written.

 

Schedule and Work Environment:

  • 40 hours per week minimum, full-time, 12 months a year.
  • Advisor work schedule preference is Tuesdays – Fridays 10am – 7pm and Saturdays 8 – 2pm to accommodate availability for our evening / weekend SPS student schedules.
  • The work environment for student success advisors is typically an office environment that is often fast-paced.
  • Advisors must be able to work efficiently with many interruptions from walk-ins, telephone inquiries and other student requests.
  • The noise level in an advisor’s work environment is usually quiet.  Advisors usually advise students in private or semi-private offices.
