The Genetic Counselor Assistant supports clinical geneticists and counselors by interviewing patients and documenting medical histories. They coordinate joint visits, obtain testing authorizations, and manage sample transportation and provider follow-ups.
A Bachelor's degree in Biology or Health Science is required along with one year of relevant patient contact and clinical project experience. Knowledge of medical practice terminology is required, while experience in prior authorizations is preferred.

Under the direction of clinical geneticists (MD/DO) and /or certified genetic counselors (CGC), the genetic counselor assistant (GCA) will be responsible for supporting the counseling, testing, and diagnosis provided by the clinic. The GCA will interview patients and document personal and family medical history prior to patient visit, coordinate joint visits with the CGCs, MD/DO, RDs and other ancillary staff, obtain testing authorization and approval, prepare samples for transportation t laboratories within and outside of
HDVCH, facilitate follow up with referring healthcare providers and laboratory personnel and other patient preparation and follow up tasks to support the clinic staff.
