About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on Health & Safety Manager to lead and personally execute the Company's health, safety, housekeeping (5S), and environmental compliance initiatives across multiple manufacturing facilities.
The primary responsibility of this position is to create and maintain safe workplaces, ensure regulatory compliance, reduce risk, and foster a strong safety culture by working directly alongside employees, supervisors, and leadership throughout our operations.
As our health and safety programs continue to mature, this role will identify and lead opportunities to improve workplace organization, housekeeping (5S), visual management, and continuous improvement initiatives that support safer and more efficient manufacturing operations.
This is not solely an administrative or compliance position. The successful candidate will spend significant time on the manufacturing floor building relationships, coaching employees, implementing practical improvements, and helping create a culture where safety, accountability, and continuous improvement become part of everyday operations.
While the responsibilities below represent the primary functions of the position, this role will continually identify and implement opportunities to improve safety, housekeeping, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Health, Safety & Workplace Organization
Personally develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve the Company's health and safety programs across multiple manufacturing facilities.
Build a culture where safety, housekeeping, organization, and accountability are fundamental responsibilities of every employee.
Spend significant time on the production floor identifying opportunities to improve safety, efficiency, and workplace organization.
Standardize safety and housekeeping practices across all company locations.
Housekeeping (5S) & Continuous Improvement
As the Company's safety programs continue to mature, identify and lead opportunities to improve workplace organization, housekeeping (5S), visual management, and operational efficiency across all facilities.
Develop organized work areas using visual management, standardized storage locations, labeling systems, shadow boards, floor markings, and workplace organization techniques.
Perform routine housekeeping inspections and correct deficiencies whenever practical.
Work directly with employees to reorganize work areas, remove unnecessary materials, improve layouts, and eliminate clutter.
Reduce unnecessary employee movement, trip hazards, blocked aisles, and inefficient work areas through continuous improvement.
Regulatory Compliance & Environmental Programs
Maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Prepare, maintain, and submit environmental reports including wastewater, air emissions, hazardous waste, permits, inspections, and regulatory documentation.
Maintain environmental compliance systems and support future ISO 14001 initiatives if implemented.
Serve as the primary point of contact during environmental inspections and regulatory interactions.
Safety Inspections & Risk Reduction
Perform routine safety inspections throughout all facilities.
Identify unsafe conditions and implement corrective actions whenever practical.
Conduct machine guarding, chemical handling, PPE, ergonomic, and facility safety inspections.
Follow corrective actions through completion.
Incident Investigation & Documentation
Personally investigate workplace injuries, incidents, near misses, environmental events, and property damage.
Determine root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions.
Maintain OSHA logs, training records, inspection reports, and compliance documentation.
Training & Safety Culture
Conduct hands-on safety training and coaching on the production floor.
Develop practical training programs and emergency response procedures.
Promote employee involvement and continuous improvement in safety.
Safety & Continuous Improvement Committees
Support and facilitate Safety & Continuous Improvement Committees at each facility to encourage employee involvement, reinforce safe work practices, and identify opportunities for workplace improvements.
Conduct regular committee meetings focused on safety performance, housekeeping (5S), workplace organization, near misses, environmental observations, employee suggestions, and continuous improvement opportunities.
Operational Partnership
Work alongside Plant Managers, Maintenance, and Operations to improve workplace safety, organization, and efficiency.
Assist supervisors in correcting unsafe conditions and sustaining housekeeping standards.
Support internal audits and continuous improvement initiatives across all facilities.
Our Philosophy
We believe an organized workplace is a safe workplace. Excellent housekeeping, visual organization, standardized work areas, and continuous improvement are essential components of our safety culture. The Health & Safety Manager will be expected to personally drive these initiatives, build practical systems that sustain them, and develop employees throughout the organization who take ownership of maintaining safe, clean, organized, and efficient workplaces.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, and relevant work experience will also be considered.
Experience
Three to five years of experience in a health and safety, environmental, manufacturing, operations, maintenance, quality, continuous improvement, or related role is preferred.
Experience working in a manufacturing, industrial, metal finishing, chemical processing, plating, or similar production environment is preferred.
Experience implementing workplace safety programs, conducting inspections, leading continuous improvement initiatives, or developing 5S programs is preferred.
Experience working across multiple facilities or supporting multiple departments is a plus.
Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and other applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations is preferred.
Certifications
OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification is preferred or must be obtained within 12 months of hire.
HAZWOPER 40-hour training is preferred. Company-sponsored training will be provided if required for the position.
Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CIH, CHMM, OHST, CHST, Lean Six Sigma, or similar credentials are considered an asset but are not required.
We are committed to investing in employee development and will provide training opportunities to support continued professional growth.
Skills & Requirements
Strong multi-site leadership, project management, and communication skills.
Ability to identify trends and use data to improve workplace safety and reduce risk.
Experience using Microsoft Office and the ability to learn safety management systems and compliance software.
Flexibility and willingness to travel regularly between assigned regional facilities.
We recognize that exceptional candidates may not meet every preferred qualification listed above. If you are passionate about workplace safety, continuous improvement, and building a positive safety culture, we encourage you to apply.
