Work at a Glance: Create New Partnerships, Expand Fundraising Opportunities.

Position Summary:

The Vice President, New Business Development is a senior leadership role responsible for identifying, cultivating, and securing net-new philanthropic revenue for the organization. This role is focused exclusively on new donors, new partners, and new revenue streams, with a particular emphasis on unrestricted and flexible funding, high six- and seven-figure commitments, and multi-year partnerships.

This is a foundational, first-of-its-kind role for the organization. The Vice President will be responsible not only for executing new business development activity, but also for building the strategy, systems, and internal alignment required to sustain long-term growth. Success in this role requires strong fundraising sales expertise, organizational savvy, and the ability to navigate internal decision-making while operating credibly and confidently with senior external partners.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

·       Own and deliver net-new revenue growth through the development and execution of a comprehensive new business development strategy aligned with NeighborWorks America’s annual and long-term fundraising goals.

·       Be fully accountable for new revenue targets and KPIs, including annual goals for unrestricted revenue, multi-year commitments, donor diversification, and conversion from prospect to partner.

·       Identify, prospect, and qualify new national donors and partners outside of traditional government and financial institution funding streams, including corporations, foundations, and other strategic partners.

·       Design, apply, and continuously refine a formal donor qualification framework, ensuring new business efforts prioritize prospects with:

o   High six- or seven-figure capacity

o   Strategic and mission alignment

o   Clear decision-making authority

o   Multi-year partnership potential

·       Lead the full new business development lifecycle, including prospecting, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, negotiation, and close, with clear stage definitions, timelines, and exit criteria.

·       Develop and advance unrestricted and flexible funding opportunities, positioning NeighborWorks America’s mission, impact, and organizational capacity as the primary value proposition rather than tying proposals solely to individual programs.

·       Partner closely with the CEO, SVP of Resource Development, and senior leadership to align new funding opportunities with organizational priorities, growth strategy, and risk tolerance, clearly defining objectives and roles for executive engagement.

·       Coordinate across programs, training, events, communications, and finance to develop compelling, funder-ready value propositions and partnership opportunities that balance donor interests with organizational capacity and sustainability.

·       Strategically leverage convenings, events, and leadership forums as intentional cultivation tools, ensuring each engagement has a defined fundraising objective, next step, and documented follow-up.

·       Serve as a senior external ambassador for the organization, consistently representing its mission, strategy, and value proposition to prospective partners at the national level.

·       Build and maintain the infrastructure for scalable new business development, including a disciplined prospect pipeline, tracking tools, qualification criteria, reporting cadence, and performance dashboards.

·       Demonstrate sound judgment and discretion in navigating internal dynamics, advancing new funding opportunities while managing trade-offs, dependencies, and organizational change with credibility and transparency.

·       Supervise, coach, and evaluate the Director of New Business Development, establishing clear roles, workflows, KPIs, and performance expectations as the function matures and scales.

·       Perform other duties as assigned.

Nature of Work Contacts:

·       Senior executives, corporate leaders, foundation officers, and philanthropic decision-makers.

·       CEO, COO, SVP of Resource Development, and other senior leaders to align strategy and solicit support.

·       Internal stakeholders across programs, training, events, finance, and communications.

Fiscal Responsibilities:

·       Direct responsibility for achieving new revenue targets, including unrestricted funding and multi-year commitments.

·       Accountability for accurate forecasting, pipeline health, and performance reporting.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

(a) Education: bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit management, or related field (Master’s preferred), and/or equivalent work experience.

(b) Experience: Minimum of 15 years of fundraising, business development, or revenue growth experience, with demonstrated success securing large, complex, multi-year philanthropic partnerships. Must have experience developing and executing new revenue strategies, including unrestricted and multi-year funding. At least three years of supervisory and team leadership experience required.

·       Comfort operating in ambiguity

·       Political and organizational savvy

·       Strong negotiation and communication skills

·       Ability to manage long sales cycles

·       Disciplined, results-oriented mindset

·       Proficiency in CRM systems and pipeline management tools.

(e) NeighborWorks America Staff are expected to demonstrate excellence in the following:

·       Sensitivity to racial, gender, sexual orientation and cultural differences

·       Effective, respectful, and timely communications with internal and external stakeholders
