Serves as the primary Learning Technologist for the UW School of Law, supporting faculty in integrating technology into teaching. Manages IT operations, supervises a technical team, and provides systems administration for server hardware and enterprise services.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or Computer Science and 3 years of experience with learning technology and Windows server administration. Additional qualifications include experience with AV hardware, PowerShell scripting, and virtualization tools.
Reporting to the Director of Law IT, the Assistant Director of Law IT is a key technology leader for the University of Washington School of Law and Gallagher Law Library. This position is responsible for serving as the Law School's primary Learning Technologist, supporting the strategic direction of Law IT operations, and providing secondary systems administration support for technology infrastructure and services. The role has a direct impact on the instructional and operational success of the School of Law by helping faculty effectively integrate technology into their teaching and by ensuring reliable, secure, and innovative technology solutions across the organization.
This position works closely with faculty, staff, UWIT, and external vendors to support instructional technology, project management, technology planning, and systems administration. The position is located on the Seattle Campus and may require occasional evening or weekend work to support classes, events, and technology initiatives.
Learning Technologist (50%): Serve as the School of Law's primary Learning Technologist, providing training, consultation, and support to faculty and staff regarding UW and Law School learning technologies, including classroom and online instructional tools; manage and oversee classroom technology support operations and supervise the classroom support team to ensure successful delivery of instructional and event technology services; research emerging technologies, participate in professional development activities, and provide recommendations regarding new tools and innovations that support teaching, learning, and operations
Supervisory and Helpdesk Support (20%): Manage up to 2.0 FTE to support classroom technology, instructional activities, and events; assign tasks to Help Desk technicians and supervise the Law IT team when the Director is unavailable; provide Tier 1, 2, and 3 technical support for learning technologies, applications, systems administration, and end-user hardware and software issues; responsibilities may also include training new employees and providing input to the Director when conducting team member performance evaluations
Unit and Project Management (20%): Collaborate with the Director of Law IT to establish unit priorities, support budget planning and management, oversee classroom, conference, and event technology spaces, and assist with Law IT Help Desk operations; lead and participate in technology projects by researching solutions, gathering requirements, maintaining project documentation, and coordinating implementation efforts
System Administration (10%): Install, maintain, and support server hardware, operating systems, and enterprise services, including Active Directory, virtualization, file sharing, printing, and information security management; coordinate with Law IT and UWIT regarding network operations, shared resources, and support standards and policies

Bachelors Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field
3 years experience working with instructors and learning technology in higher education and administering Windows servers, desktops, and laptops in an enterprise Active Directory environment
Team management experience
Experience with classroom AV technology hardware such as Crestron, Biamp, Shure, etc., including the tools necessary to configure and maintain such hardware
Experience in website and database administration
Experience scripting solutions using PowerShell
Experience in managing network services including: Active Directory, Remote Desktop Services, Hyper-V and
VMWare virtualization, Internet Information Services, DNS, file sharing, and printing
Experience in hardware troubleshooting
Knowledge of desktop applications, such as Microsoft 365 apps, to provide training, technical support, and solutions
Excellent communication, time management, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously, shifting priorities as needed
Experience building and maintaining relationships with external vendors and partners
Experience scripting solutions using PowerShell
Experience with Microsoft Intune
Knowledge of development and administration languages, such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, .NET, and C#
Experience with relational databases and SQL queries/stored procedures
Experience administering content management systems such as Umbraco and Microsoft SharePoint
Experience in working with integrated systems ranging from front-end web user interfaces through to back-end database and system applications
Work is primarily performed in person at William H. Gates Hall and can work remotely up to 2 days per week
Attendance at occasional events outside of traditional business hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required
Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
