Lead and grow a 15-person design team while acting as a player-coach to elevate product quality and UX. Drive the design strategy for Amplitude's product suite, focusing on the integration of AI agents and human workflows.
Requirements
Proven experience managing senior designers and shipping AI-native products that impact business metrics. Requires a portfolio demonstrating both high-level systems thinking and meticulous visual execution.
Full job description
Amplitude is the leading AI analytics platform, helping over 4,700 customers—including Atlassian, Burger King, NBCUniversal, and Square—build better products and digital experiences. With powerful AI Agents embedded across our platform, teams can analyze, test, and optimize user experiences faster than ever. Ranked #1 across multiple categories in G2’s Winter 2026 Report, Amplitude is the best-in-class solution for product, data, and marketing teams. Learn more at amplitude.com.
As an organization, we deliver for our customers by living our values. We operate from a place of humility, take ownership of problems and successes, approach challenges with a growth mindset, and put our customers at the center of everything we do.
Amplitude’s Commitment to Diversity Equity & Inclusion (DEI): Amplitude believes that diversity enables the creation of better products, improves the ability to solve complex problems, and drives more powerful solutions. We strive to create an environment of inclusion—one focused on psychological safety, empathy, and human connection—that will allow employees of all backgrounds to thrive.
Amplitude is moving fast, from product analytics to an AI-native platform with agents embedded across the product, used by over 4,700 companies. We are looking for a strong design leader with a builder mindset to lead a 15-person design team through the next phase of growth.
This is a player-coach role. You manage and grow the team. You also stay in the actual work: elevating quality through feedback, pairing with designers on the hardest UX puzzles, and asking the right questions to unlock the crux of the problem. You'll know every product surface well enough to raise its quality — even if you don't own any single one end-to-end.
Designers are embedded in autonomous pods and need to keep shipping fast. Maintaining speed without compromising on coherence and quality is the job. If that tension sounds like an exciting problem to solve rather than a contradiction to complain about, keep reading.
What you'll do
Build the team. Hire, grow, and retain a high-performing design team, identifying people who will thrive and raise the bar at Amplitude. Develop them through direct, specific feedback. Help someone who's stuck get moving again.
Set direction. Drive the design strategy for Amplitude's product suite: Core Amplitude, Statsig, and Wave (a proactive agent that helps teams build self-improving products). Help define how agents and humans work together in the same workflows.
Champion craft. Strong visual design builds trust, clarity, and delight in the era of AI. Lead by example, elevating the quality of the product through exceptional design execution.
Hold a high bar. AI makes it cheap to ship UI changes, which makes it easy for quality to erode quietly. Set a clear standard for what good looks like and enforce it without becoming an approval bottleneck.
Stay in production. You believe that “the design” is what ships. Code is the material that brings the design to life. Push on the details, the papercuts, the edge cases.
Speak for the customer. Show up in leadership conversations as the voice of the customer, pushing for solutions that genuinely serve their needs and reduce complexity.
What we're looking for
You've managed senior, independent IC designers and earned their respect through product and craft judgment.
You've shipped products that moved real customer and business metrics, fast.
You've created (not inherited) structure inside of a messy, high-growth organization.
You've shipped AI-native experiences and use AI tools in your own practice today (we'll ask what you built and what you learned).
Your portfolio shows both systems-level thinking and pixel-level craft.
Bonus: You’ve designed for both technical and non-technical users, and can hold that tension without compromising the experience for either.
Bonus: Experience with Analytics, Experimentation, or Developer tools.
What this is not
Not an executive role that manages up and delegates down. You're deep in the work.
Not a pure IC role. You're accountable for a team of 15.
Not design ops. Your job isn't to add rituals, templates, or governance.
Not the approval committee. Pods keep moving; you create coherence without becoming the bottleneck.
