The Oncology Liaison serves as a key connector between clinical operations, oncology providers, and research initiatives at Springfield Clinic (SC). This role supports the growth and coordination of oncology-related programs, including clinical research, by facilitating communication, identifying opportunities, and ensuring efficient execution of approved protocols.
The Oncology Liaison partners closely with investigators, clinical staff, and external sponsors to advance program development, improve patient access to research, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
Job Relationships
Reports to the Cancer Center Director
Maintains a dotted-line reporting relationship to Clinical Research Leadership
Principal Responsibilities
Serve as the primary liaison for oncology-related research and program initiatives across Springfield Clinic.
Identify program growth opportunities, including feasibility assessment for new clinical trials and partnerships.
Coordinate startup and ongoing management of IRB-approved clinical trials in compliance with federal, state, and institutional requirements (ICH/GCP, OSHA, IATA).
Establish relationships with trial sponsors and Contract Research Organizations (CRO’s) to facilitate expansion of drug pipelines and clinical trial opportunities.
Facilitate communication between investigators, clinic staff, sponsors, and the Clinical Research Department.
Educate providers and staff on study protocols, amendments, and research-related requirements to ensure adherence and engagement.
Maintain oversite of accurate and complete study documentation, including source documentation, case report forms, and investigational product accountability.
Collaborate with Clinical Research Associates (CRAs) and study monitors to ensure data accuracy, resolve discrepancies, and maintain audit readiness. This coordination and collaboration could include:
Screen, consent, and enroll eligible patients into clinical trials; ensure appropriate follow-up through study completion.
Conduct study visits per protocol and oversee collection, processing, and shipment of specimens in compliance with regulatory standards.
Monitor research patients for adverse events and ensure timely reporting of serious adverse events (SAEs) and protocol deviations.
Support onboarding, education, and development of staff involved in oncology research activities.
Participate in financial oversight of oncology research and program operations, including contributing to budget development, monitoring expenses, and ensuring appropriate utilization of resources aligned with program goals.
Ensure compliance with Springfield Clinic policies, including incident reporting, privacy (HIPAA), and code of conduct standards.
Maintain required certifications and hospital privileges as applicable.
Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.
Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
Perform other job duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related healthcare field required.
Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical oncology and/or research experience required.
Prior clinical research experience is strongly preferred.
Licenses/Certificates
CPR certification (American Heart Association) preferred within 30 days of hire.
Research certification (CCRP or CCRC) encouraged within two (2) years of employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong knowledge of clinical research regulations (ICH/GCP, CFR, HIPAA).
Proficiency in EMR systems, Microsoft Office, and sponsor-required platforms.
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to effectively collaborate with physicians, staff, sponsors, and patients.
Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
High attention to detail and commitment to compliance.
Working Environment
Primarily office-based with travel to clinic locations as needed.
