Responsibilities
NV5 is seeking a full-time Transportation (Roadway) Designer in our Charlotte, NC office. The Transportation Designer will provide engineering design, calculations, CAD support, and project assistance to the Transportation Design Group. The ideal candidate will design and complete assigned projects on time, within budget, and of high quality. The most frequent and essential work activities include:
Use project specifications, detailed drawings, and verbal instructions to complete assignments.
Performs calculations, prepares material and specifications and provides preliminary sketches and notes for drawings.
Plans, schedules, and executes all phases of a highway design project.
Performs preliminary, right-of-way and final engineering design.
Works closely with engineer/project managers to obtain project information, recommend changes and ensure drawings are accurate and complete.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
0-3 years of previous roadway engineering experience
EI certification a plus (at minimum-FE exam should be scheduled)
Knowledge of Open Roads and/or MicroStation / GEOPAK / Corridor Modeling software a plus
Experience with NCDOT design standards and practices is preferred.
Basic Microsoft Excel & Word skills
Must be willing to travel on occasion.
Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license prior to employment preferred.
Work Environment and Physical Demands

Work will primarily be in the office setting with limited opportunities to be exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Must be able to carry, lift and push/pull up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Weekend and overtime work and/or overnight work and travel may be required.
Additional physical duties may be required as necessary.
