Responsibilities
The Correctional Services Consultant develops, evaluates, and manages classification policies, procedures, and training systems to ensure effective inmate management. They also provide support to staff, handle grievance appeals, and coordinate statewide classification programs.
Requirements
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and at least seven years of professional experience in classification or correctional services. Specific experience requirements include at least one year in a supervisory classification role or five years as a senior classification officer.
This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Tallahassee Central Office in the Services and Systems Development.
The purpose of the Correctional Services Consultant is to develop, evaluate, and manage classification policies, procedures, systems, training, and support to ensure consistent and effective classification management within the Department.
This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
JOB DUTIES:
Develops and updates rules, procedures, and manuals for the Bureau of Classification Management.
Reviews policies and staff actions to ensure they follow Department rules and corrects any errors found.
Answers questions from staff, other agencies, and the public about classification rules and policies.
Helps create and maintain classification systems and responds to inmate grievance appeals and legal petitions.
Designs and coordinates training for new officers and manages statewide programs related to inmate classification and scheduling.

REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalency.
Must possess seven (7) years of experience working in a professional Classification, Correctional Officer Series, or Probation Officer position (professional classification includes Classification Officer or higher; Correctional Services Assistant Consultant or higher).
Must possess at least:
a. one (1) year of experience as a Classification Supervisor-SES and/or other Classification-SES -SES positions in the Region/Central Office; or
b. At least five (5) years of experience as a Senior Classification Officer; or
c. At least four (4) years of experience as a Senior Classification Officer and a college degree.
Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.
