BACKGROUND:The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 28 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. The IRC office in Miami has been serving the community since the 1960s. Over the decades, IRC in Miami has provided critical support to refugees, asylees, survivors of human trafficking, unaccompanied minors, immigrant youth,and their families.
SCOPE OF IMMIGRANT YOUTH CASEWORK INTERN WORK:The Immigrant Youth Casework Intern will supportourMiami-Dade-based Immigrant Youth team in delivering essential services to immigrant children and their families. Key responsibilities includeidentifyingand connecting clients with community resources to enhance self-sufficiency, as well asparticipatingin community awareness and outreach initiatives. The position may require travel within the Miami-Dade region.The hours for this position are flexible; however, will primarily be between 9AM and 5PM on weekdays, with occasional weekend activities. Please note that all internship positions are unpaid, and we are currently considering candidates in South Florida only.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
The intern will gain knowledge of solution-oriented, strengths-based care coordination for immigrant families.
The intern will develop skills in trauma-informed, client-centered care.
The intern will develop skills in mapping community assets and resources.
The intern will develop skills in client empowerment and advocacy.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assistcaseworkers serving children and their families by helping them with school enrollment, public benefits applications, making referrals, and client advocacy.
Assistwith research on local community resources.
Assistwith outreach to local organizations to helpestablishpartnerships within the community.
Assistwith managing client case notes and files
Communicate case statuses and coordinate service plans with the supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS:
Excellent communication and writing skills
Organized with attention to detail
Able to work independently and under pressure
An interest in international issues
Strong desireand enthusiasm to help people
Computer literacy – preferably with PC systems
Access to internet
Valid driver’s licenseandreliable access to an insured vehicle.
REQUIREMENTS:
Must pass a background check
Must be at least 18 years old
Minimum commitment of 15 hours per week for a minimum of 3 consecutive months.

The internship will be filled on a rolling basis. We will continue to accept applications until August 14th, 2026, or until the position is filled, whichever occurs first. Internship will begin the week of September 8th, 2026.
This position will report to the Immigrant Youth Program Supervisor and Immigrant Youth Coordinator.
