About this Opportunity
The Deputy Athletic Director reports to the Athletic Director and will provide oversight, leadership and supervision to all staff and units in the assigned areas of responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
This position manages employees.
The Deputy Athletic Director will serve as the primary liaison between the men’s basketball program and the athletic department, providing strategic oversight, operational leadership, and comprehensive program support. This role is responsible for supervising all administrative aspects of the program, including budget management, revenue share allocations, scheduling, and compliance with NCAA and conference regulations, as well as oversight and tracking of third-party Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) agreements in coordination with institutional policies. The position coordinates with internal support units such as academic services, sports medicine, strength and conditioning, communications, and student-athlete development. The Sport Administrator works closely with the head coach to align program goals with departmental priorities, supports recruiting strategy within regulatory frameworks, and assists in contract management and personnel decisions. Additionally, the role plays a key part in monitoring financial distributions tied to student-athlete compensation models, ensuring transparency and adherence to evolving legislation. The position fosters a culture of competitive excellence, student-athlete well-being, and ethical conduct, while serving as a visible representative of the program in donor engagement, external relations, and conference or national governance when appropriate. 55%
Provide senior leadership and oversight for designated units of the Athletics Department. Direct, supervise and evaluate head coaches and other unit heads in assigned areas of oversight. Responsible for recruiting, hiring, evaluations, salary recommendations, dismissal of personnel and disciplinary action if necessary. Provide staff development. Orient new coaches and staff to department policy and procedures. Work with coaches and staff to solve problems and resolve issues. May supervise or indirectly evaluate clerical support staff. 30%
Serve as the project manager for various department-wide initiatives; particularly related to the department’s continued work to implement a framework and strategies as the college athletics model continues to evolve. Serve and lead department committees as assigned by the Director of Athletics. 15%
Required Qualifications

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (e.g., master’s, law degree, or MBA) preferred.
Minimum of 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in collegiate athletics administration, preferably at the Division I level, with direct sport oversight experience.
Additional Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA and conference rules and regulations, with a strong commitment to compliance and ethical conduct.
Experience managing budgets and financial operations, including familiarity with revenue sharing models and tracking of third-party Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) agreements.
Proven ability to work effectively with coaches, student-athletes, and multidisciplinary support staff in a high-performance environment.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and complex issues.
Experience supporting recruiting operations within NCAA guidelines.
Demonstrated commitment to student-athlete welfare, academic success, and holistic development.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and navigate sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion.
Working Conditions
Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Big Ten Conference, the State of Washington and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University. The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance
with all such rules and regulations. As a condition of employment, the Employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Compensation, Benefits and Position Details
Pay Range Minimum:
$215,004.00 annual
Pay Range Maximum:
$225,000.00 annual
Other Compensation:
Taxable benefits include participation in the ICA Courtesy Car Program, athletic equipment/apparel allowance, and tickets to the UW intercollegiate home competitions. Non-local candidates may be eligible for a moving allowance.
