Full job description
Dragonfly Boatworks is seeking an experienced Marine Rigger / Boat Rigging Technician who can perform complete boat installations accurately, cleanly, and with limited supervision.
This is not an entry-level or general labor position. Applicants must have meaningful experience in marine rigging, boatbuilding, marine electrical work, or a closely related installation trade.
We are looking for a dependable technician who understands that proper measurements, secure connections, organized routing, thorough testing, and professional workmanship are essential to building a safe and reliable boat.
Primary Responsibilities
Rig boats from initial installation through final testing and completion
Install outboard motors, steering systems, throttle and shift controls, gauges, wiring, batteries, pumps, switches, hardware, and accessories
Install and connect fuel, plumbing, bilge, livewell, and electrical systems
Work with both 12-volt and 24-volt marine electrical systems
Route wiring, cables, hoses, and control lines neatly, securely, and safely
Read and follow wiring diagrams, installation manuals, measurements, production specifications, and work instructions
Diagnose and correct electrical, mechanical, installation, and fitment problems
Test installed systems and verify proper operation before a boat leaves the department
Identify incomplete, damaged, unsafe, or incorrectly installed components
Complete assigned work accurately without requiring continuous supervision
Protect finished surfaces while drilling, cutting, mounting, and installing equipment
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
Coordinate with supervisors and other departments to complete boats on schedule
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have:
Demonstrated experience in marine rigging, boatbuilding, marine service, marine electrical work, or a closely related trade
Working knowledge of both 12-volt and 24-volt marine electrical systems
Experience installing and troubleshooting wiring, batteries, switches, breakers, chargers, distribution panels, pumps, and related marine equipment
Ability to identify voltage requirements and verify that components are correctly installed, connected, protected, and tested
Experience using hand tools, cordless tools, drills, saws, crimpers, multimeters, and other installation or diagnostic equipment
Ability to read a tape measure accurately and perform basic shop math
Ability to make secure electrical connections using proper terminals, connectors, crimping methods, and heat shrink
Understanding of wire routing, circuit protection, polarity, grounding, and safe battery connections
Ability to read wiring diagrams, manufacturer instructions, and production specifications
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
High attention to detail and an understanding of professional fit-and-finish standards
Ability to work independently while remaining accountable for completed work
Reliable attendance and the ability to report to work on time
Clear English communication skills sufficient for safety instructions, training, documentation, and teamwork
A valid driver’s license
Authorization to work in the United States and the ability to complete required employment verification
Preferred Experience
Strong candidates will have experience with several of the following:
Rigging a boat from an unfinished hull through final completion
Outboard motor installation and setup
Hydraulic and mechanical steering systems
Throttle and shift control installation
12-volt and 24-volt battery banks and multi-battery systems
Battery switches, chargers, breakers, fuses, relays, and distribution panels
Proper wire sizing, circuit protection, terminal installation, and heat-shrink connections
Bilge pumps, livewell systems, fuel systems, freshwater systems, and plumbing
Trolling motors, trim tabs, jack plates, marine electronics, lighting, and accessories
Reading marine wiring diagrams and manufacturer installation manuals
Using multimeters to test voltage, continuity, polarity, and electrical connections
Troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, or installation problems
Performing final system checks and quality-control inspections
Quality Expectations
The successful applicant must be able to:
Produce clean, organized, and professional installations
Measure carefully before drilling, cutting, or mounting equipment
Confirm voltage requirements before connecting equipment
Keep 12-volt and 24-volt circuits properly identified and separated
Protect finished surfaces and components while working
Complete assignments correctly rather than relying on another employee to repair repeated mistakes
Recognize when an installation is unsafe, incomplete, poorly routed, or below company standards
Test completed work before considering an assignment finished
Accept feedback, follow established procedures, and correct issues promptly
Take responsibility for assigned work from start to finish
Maintain consistent quality while meeting production expectations
Application Requirements
To be considered, applicants should submit a resume or detailed work history describing:
Previous marine rigging or related installation experience
Types of boats and systems previously worked on
Experience with 12-volt and 24-volt marine electrical systems
Experience with steering, controls, plumbing, batteries, pumps, wiring, and outboard installation
Tools and diagnostic equipment they are comfortable using
Their ability to rig and troubleshoot a boat independently
Applicants whose experience is limited to general labor, detailing, basic assembly, or assisting another rigger without independently completing installations may not meet the requirements for this position.
Final candidates may be asked to complete a practical skills evaluation involving measuring, tool use, wiring, system identification, and troubleshooting. Candidates may also be subject to lawful pre-employment screening relevant to the duties of the position.
