Overall Responsibilities: The Master Scheduling Manager is responsible for establishing, monitoring, and maintaining an achievable master production schedule that supports customer demand, while optimizing inventory efficiencies and investment. This role manages the scheduling function, oversees material planning, and ensures alignment with manufacturing and business objectives. Additionally, this position manages general planning issues for projects or departments, including budget, inventory, and compliance with company goals and industry regulations.

 

Duties:

  • Manage and maintain the master production schedule (MPS) to ensure consistency and accuracy with production plans.
  • Oversee daily production schedules, ensuring alignment with capacity, material availability, and manpower requirements.
  • Revise schedules as needed due to changes in demand, material shortages, or other interruptions.
  • Engage with departments including Planning, Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering, and Program Management to ensure on-time delivery and resolution of scheduling conflicts.
  • Manage scheduling efforts and schedule baselines, ensuring compliance with project goals and customer commitments.
  • Advise business managers on integrating project schedules with Earned Value Management.
  • Lead and mentor the scheduling and planning teams, providing hands-on support, guidance, and development opportunities.
  • Serve as a change agent, fostering an environment of trust, compliance, continuous improvement, and learning.
  • Provide support for bids, bid reviews, integrated baseline reviews, and internal projects.
  • Attend site business management meetings to define scheduling needs and coordinate resource allocation.
  • Work collaboratively across departments such as Finance, Sales Operations, Supply Chain, Production Control, Manufacturing, and Engineering to achieve shared objectives.
  • Oversee material requirements to ensure comprehensive compliance for manufacturing.
  • Proactively review material supply and demand, identifying actions to maintain alignment with MPS and supply MRP.
  • Work closely with Purchasing to determine lead times and identify creative flexibility strategies.
  • Monitor and maintain optimal inventory levels to meet production demands while minimizing cost.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, codes, and regulations.
  • Support and coordinate internal and external surveillance audits.
  • Identify and resolve scheduling and production issues, escalating as necessary to avoid delays.
  • Communicate the status of work in progress, material availability, and production constraints to key stakeholders.
  • Provide site schedulers with hands-on support and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Participate in performance evaluations and goal-setting for scheduling staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field preferred or 7 years of related experience in a manufacturing environment, with experience in material planning, distribution, production, and scheduling.
  • A.P.I.C.S. certification is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of MRP principles required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Production Planning and Production Scheduling best practices and principles.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in scheduling within a manufacturing operation, preferably in electronics, electro-mechanical assembly, or machine shop environments.
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership experience in materials management or scheduling.
  • Experience with Purchasing, Materials, and Operations processes and tools.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and ambitious timelines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel; experience with MS Project is a plus.

Physical/Mental Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while creating and managing production schedules.
  • Regularly moves within office and production areas to coordinate with cross-functional teams and resolve scheduling issues.
  • Frequently operates office productivity equipment, including a computer, to manage scheduling systems, analyze data, and prepare reports.
  • Occasionally travels to company sites or supplier locations to support scheduling and production activities.
  • Communicates effectively with internal teams, suppliers, and executive leadership to align production schedules and resolve conflicts.
