SUMMARY:
The Director of Learning & Development is responsible for developing the people, skills, and capabilities that enable Premise to safely deliver exceptional work for our customers. This leader designs and executes the company's training strategy, ensuring employees at every level—from apprentice through senior leadership—have the knowledge, technical expertise, leadership skills, and resources needed to succeed.
In partnership with Operations, Safety, Human Resources, and Project Management, this role will design and deliver training, accelerate employee development, help improve field execution, and build the next generation of leaders.
We’re looking for someone who can act as the architect of Premise's learning ecosystem: identifying needs, designing programs, coordinating subject matter experts, measuring results, and reinforcing our corporate value of “Ready to Learn.” In doing so, the Director of Learning & Development will combine strategic leadership with hands-on program development and field engagement.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Develop and execute Premise's enterprise-wide learning and development strategy by identifying current and future capability gaps across field and office operations and aligning learning initiatives with the company's strategic goals and workforce planning needs
Create annual and multi-year training and development roadmaps aligned with company growth objectives.
Partner with field leadership and department leaders to identify skill gaps, ramp-up new employees, develop crew foremen, rollout new equipment, meet customer requirements, adopt technology and meet quality improvement initiatives.
Lead Premise's craft development strategy by working with apprenticeship organizations, supporting apprentice progression, coordinating technical instruction, developing mentoring programs, measuring apprentice success and supporting journeyman development
Develop and deliver learning using a blended approach that includes classroom instruction, virtual learning, jobsite coaching, hands-on demonstrations, e-learning and video instruction
Partner with subject matter experts to create technical content and ensure it remains current and relevant.
Own and continuously improve onboarding programs that deliver a consistent, high-quality experience for every employee, accelerating time to productivity while reinforcing Premise's culture, values, safety expectations, and quality standards.
Design, develop and deliver leadership development programsthat build the skills, confidence, and effectiveness of leaders at all levels.
Develop and maintain the company's operational knowledge documentation including standard operating procedures, field manuals, work instructions, best practices, videos, checklists, and technical reference guides. Ensure institutional knowledge is documented and shared throughout the organization.
Build a culture of continuous learning that supports Premise’s corporate value of “Be Ready to Learn”
Manage all learning operations including learning management system (LMS), monthly training calendar, instructor scheduling, vendor relationships, and compliance documentation
Establish metrics that demonstrate business impact and continuously evaluate programs and implement improvements based on business outcomes.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in related field or combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Seven or more years of progressive experience in Learning & Development to include the following:
designing and implementing enterprise-wide learning programs
developing leadership development programs
creating technical training materials
administering learning management systems
partnering with schools/trade organizations
Exceptional facilitation and presentation skills
Strong project management skills
OSHA knowledge
Strong change management skills
Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
All employees must demonstrate the ability to promote and embody the Premise Core Values: Be Ready to Learn, Own the Result, Build Trust, and Drive to Complete.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Construction, electrical contracting, utility, telecommunications, or industrial experience strongly preferred
Experience leading apprenticeship programs
OTHER REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
Collaboration - Works well with others to get the job done. Builds trust across crews, departments, and roles.
Continuous improvement - Looks for better, safer or more efficient ways to work and helps the team improve.
Own the result - Takes responsibility for the results of their work. Able to explain how and why things happened.
Planning & organizing - Creates clear plans, organizes people and resources, and stays focused so work gets done efficiently, within budget and on time—even when problems arise.
