Description of Work
The primary purpose of this position is to provide comprehensive psychiatric care to forensic inpatients and conduct court-ordered forensic psychiatric evaluations. Responsibilities include patient assessment and treatment, interdisciplinary treatment planning, forensic evaluations and report writing, consultation, expert testimony, and participation in teaching and quality improvement activities.

Salary Range: $170,121.00 - $340,243.00
Recruitment Range: $254,668.00 - $300,000.00
A Sign-on bonus of $20,000 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting, contingent on the 2025-2026 Budget Approval.
Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.
The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:
Experience providing comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and treatment in an inpatient psychiatric setting.
Experience functioning as the leader of an interdisciplinary treatment team and developing comprehensive treatment plans.
Experience coordinating and supervising discharge planning and continuity of care.
Experience conducting forensic psychiatric evaluations, including competency to proceed, criminal responsibility, violence risk, and other forensic mental health assessments.
This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.
The normal work hours for this position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday however flexibility is required to meet hospital needs. This is a full-time position and eligible for the full State benefits package including health insurance and retirement.
Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus
To qualify for the Sign-on Bonus, a newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week to be eligible. Those who are eligible and working less than 40 hours a week will receive a prorated rate.
An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:
The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system, within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date)
The employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency
DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
