The Opportunity
We are building a modern, enterprise-scale data platform leveraging Microsoft Fabric to drive analytics, geospatial insights, and AI-enabled decision-making.
We are seeking a capable Data Engineer to play a foundational role in shaping and delivering Council’s end-to-end data ecosystem—from ingestion and transformation to semantic models and consumption patterns.
As a Data Engineer, you will be reporting to the Head Enterprise Data and working closely with business stakeholders across Council. Co-design the data governance framework, and engineering standards to govern the platform.
Ensure the data pipeline is secured and aligned with the adopted standards.
Evolve Council’s current enterprise data pipeline to support multiple domains including (but not limited to) Finance, People, Procurement and Assets
Deliver high-quality, consumable and fit for purpose data assets for analytics, reporting or AI use cases
Monitor and optimise performance using tools such as V-Order, Delta Optimisation and Fabric Capacity Metrics
Ensure strong governance across architecture, security, cost management and platform standards
Be consultative with business domain expert and data analysts stakeholders to co-design the semantic data models to support data visualisation outcome.
Troubleshoot, resolve and continuously improve production data pipelines
Drive consistent engineering standards, practices and continuous improvement
Work closely with application SMEs, integration partners and security teams to deliver aligned data solutions
About You
You are an experienced Data Engineer with a strong technical foundation and a passion for building and delivering high-quality data solutions. You are comfortable working across complex data environments and enjoy solving challenging problems that deliver real organisational impact.
You are a collaborative and effective communicator, outcome driven, and able to work closely with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver fit-for-purpose solutions.
You will bring:
Demonstrated and practical experience in data engineering and integration using MS Fabric.
Strong expertise in bulk data integration and data processing skills specifically: SQL, PySpark.
Proven data modelling capability.
Experience with different Azure or other infrastructure cloud storage platforms.
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Spark or PowerShell
Understanding of data integration methods (APIs, SFTP, ERP systems)
Experience with data visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau or similar
Knowledge of cloud identity and access management standards such as OAuth2, Entra.
Experience working with ERP data.
Experience with test-driven development.
Qualifications and Experience
5+ years’ experience in Data Engineering or a related field
Tertiary qualifications in IT, Computer Science or a relevant discipline
Microsoft Data certifications (e.g. DP-600, DP-700) highly desirable
Why Join Us
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in transforming how Council uses data to deliver better outcomes for the community. You’ll work on modern technologies, contribute to innovative initiatives, and help shape the future of data, analytics and AI within the organisation.
