As a Home Enablement Specialist, you too can make a powerful contribution. You’ll be on the frontline, helping restore homes to safe, hygienic and habitable conditions — directly improving the health and wellbeing of Westminster’s most vulnerable residents.
We’re a small, close-knit team, passionate about making a difference. Reporting directly to the Home Enablement Supervisor, you’ll also work closely with a range of professionals, including housing officers, social workers and environmental health teams. This may entail reporting safeguarding concerns or property damage to the appropriate authority. Together, you’ll work out the best way forward for residents.
You’ll provide professional and sensitive home hygienic restoration and enablement support in properties affected by hoarding, hazardous waste or extreme environmental conditions. As situations can be challenging, you’ll need to be professional, resilient and have a strong commitment to health and safety, including COSHH and biohazard protocols. Ensuring safety will be at the core of what you do: whether you’re carrying out intensive property restoration, disposing of waste materials or decontaminating affected areas. Plus, you’ll maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and any incidents or hazards encountered. There will be times when you’ll have to wear PPE for extended periods.
Often, you’ll encounter vulnerable residents. We ask that you approach them with empathy, patience and respect, and offer a discreet, non-judgemental service.

We’re looking for someone who is practical, compassionate and committed to supporting vulnerable residents to live in safer, healthier and more manageable home environments. You may have experience in housing, adult social care, environmental services, community support, property services, or another role where you have supported people in challenging or sensitive circumstances.
You will be confident working directly with residents who may be experiencing distress, poor health, social isolation, hoarding behaviours, or difficulty maintaining their home environment. You will approach every situation with empathy, patience, discretion and respect, ensuring residents feel listened to and supported throughout the process.
You will be comfortable working as part of a small team and alongside a range of professionals, including social workers, housing officers, environmental health colleagues and other partner agencies. You will understand the importance of sharing concerns appropriately, including safeguarding concerns, risks within the property, or issues that may affect a resident’s health, safety or wellbeing.
This is a practical, hands-on role, so you will need to be resilient, organised and able to work safely in environments that may be physically and emotionally challenging. You will have a good understanding of health and safety, including the importance of using PPE appropriately, following safe working practices, and complying with relevant procedures such as Control of Substances Hazardous to Health COSHH where required.
You will also be able to maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, risks identified and any incidents or concerns. Good communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage your time and priorities effectively will be important.
A flexible approach is essential, as the needs of residents and the service may vary. You may occasionally be required to work outside standard hours, including evenings or weekends. A full UK driving licence is also required.
Relevant training or experience in safeguarding, health and safety, manual handling, COSHH, housing, adult social care, environmental support or working with vulnerable adults would be helpful. However, we are most interested in your values, practical skills, reliability and commitment to making a positive difference.
