AtkinsRéalis’s Minerals and Metals team in Canada is made up of more than 400 employees who work on large-scale projects to support mining sustainability, pit-to-port opportunities, metallurgical plant engineering, or mine closure and capabilities in the study, design, and construction of mining projects across a wide range of mining and processing methods and commodities. The team combines global-caliber expertise to provide tailored solutions for projects of any size, scope, or complexity. We believe in working openly and transparently, together delivering world-class projects. We work collaboratively with teams across the world, from Canada to Brazil in the south to India in the east, delivering exceptional value and innovation to our clients. To support our growth initiatives, we are expanding our team and are looking for innovative, forward-thinking people who enjoy challenges and want to add value to project success, both locally and internationally.
The Tailings, Water and Environment team is looking for an Environmental Scientist/Engineer to work on projects related to the mining environment. The Environmental Scientist/Engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of engineers and environmental professionals and will be involved in small- and large-scale projects across the country and internationally. The work will include environmental site assessment, remediation, risk management and waste management associated with development, operations, decommissioning, closure, and monitoring at mining and metallurgical sites.
This role will be based in Vancouver, BC.
Your role
Work directly with Project Managers and other project team members to meet client deliverables on time and on budget.
Coordination and execution of field programs on a diverse range of sites (urban and remote), with a focus on health, safety, environment, and community. Includes intrusive investigations (drilling, test pitting, etc.); monitoring well installation; groundwater, surface water, porewater, sediment and soil vapour monitoring/sampling; remedial excavations and other specified tasks including supervision of subcontractors.
Develop workplans, budgets and schedules for contaminated sites investigation or remediation projects particularly in the mining and industrial sectors.
Apply a robust understanding and current knowledge of BC environmental regulations, protocols, and technical guidance documents (experience and knowledge of federal regulations is an asset).
Prepare (for senior review) technical reports including: documenting of scope activities and execution methods; evaluation and interpretation of data, results, or findings; and preparation of conclusions and recommendations.
Assist the project manager in management of budgets, schedule, communication, resources, HSE, and quality.
Assist in the preparation of proposals in response to client’s requests, RFQs and RFPs.
About you
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, or a related field.
5+ years of experience in environmental site assessment, risk management, and remediation. A focus on mining and/or metallurgical facilities (or equivalent experience) would be an asset.
Proven expertise in developing environmental workplans, preparing cost estimates, coordinating and executing field data collection programs, supervising subcontractors, and conducting data analysis and technical report writing.
Proficiency in applying BC environmental regulatory legislation (EMA, CSR, HWR, etc.), with a thorough understanding of contaminated sites assessment, remediation protocols, and BC mining regulations (Mines Act, Health, Safety, and Reclamation Code).
Registered as a Professional Engineer or Geoscientist, or as an Engineer/Geologist-in-Training in BC, or be eligible for registration in any Canadian province.
Project management experience, with the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously.
