As a Healthy Environments & Climate Change Analystwith Vancouver Coastal Health you will:
Report to the Regional Manager, Health Protection, with day-to-day supervision by the Senior Planner, Healthy Environments & Climate Change
Work as part of the centralized Health Protection team to provide leadership and support in the implementation and evaluation of the Healthy Environments & Climate Change (HECC) strategic plan.
Strive to improve the health of all people in Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) and reduce inequities among populations by addressing the determinants of health and promoting equitable health outcomes through the reduction of environmental exposures and improvements to the built environment.
Be a resource on healthy environment principles for the staff and community partners.
Collaborate with the HECC leadership and leads efforts to review and synthesize current research in order to continually expand our understanding of the linkages between the built environment and climate change mitigation, adaptation and resilience and their impact population health.
Develop, implement, facilitate, consult, educate, evaluate and research initiatives related to health, the built environment, climate change mitigation, adaptation and resilience throughout the health region to stimulate integration within and partnerships beyond the organization.
Collaborate with diverse stakeholders including staff, Medical Health Officers, local governments, non-profit organizations and other community partners in order to support the inclusion of health considerations within community planning and services to build healthier, more livable and climate resilient communities in the region.
This work is aligned with VCH’s people-centred values and focused on advancing Indigenous Cultural Safety, anti-racism, diversity, equity and inclusion and Planetary Health.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Master’s degree in Planning, Public Health, Health Science or a health-related discipline.
Three (3) years’ recent, related public health and partner/stakeholder engagement experience including experience with project management/coordination, policy development and evaluation, knowledge translation, research grants and change management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid BC Driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes.
Knowledge & Abilities
Strong understanding of the public health and the healthcare system including broad knowledge of public health policies, procedures, regulations, and legislative environment.
Knowledge of complex organizational and system dynamics in terms of involving multiple stakeholders, community organizations and services.
Knowledge of public health science, population health, determinants of health, health equity, healthy built environment, epidemiology, climate change mitigation and adaptation, theoretical and applied models of health promotion, prevention, health protection and applicable legislation.VCH Role Description – Healthy Environments & Climate Change Analyst Page 2
Knowledge of research methodologies including qualitative, quantitative methods and analysis, including questionnaire design, interviewing skills and content analysis.
General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safety care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
Demonstrated project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Understanding of knowledge translation theory and practice.
Ability to review and interpret applicable reports.
Ability to critically analyze and synthesize complex evidence base into summary reports.
Demonstrated community and organizational development skills.
Ability to build credibility, understanding and trust in the external community to assist VCH to meet its strategic directions.
Demonstrated ability to design, lead and evaluate a range of community engagement projects, as well as the ability to independently determine appropriate levels of engagement with internal and external stakeholders while ensuring senior staff are informed.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Demonstrated presentation and facilitation skills. .

Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.
