Job DetailsJob Location: Vancouver - VANCOUVER, BC V6E 4A2Corix operates the Burnaby Mountain District Energy Utility, turning locally sourced wood waste destined for landfill into clean heat and hot water for SFU's Burnaby campus and the UniverCity community – hands-on infrastructure work with a real environmental payoff, part of a growing portfolio of district energy systems Corix operates across North America.
As a District Energy Utility Operator, you'll help keep this facility and its network of underground piping and energy transfer stations running safely and reliably, working closely with the Area Supervisor and Area Manager. No two days will look quite the same: one shift might be routine monitoring and preventative maintenance, the next could be troubleshooting a mechanical issue or responding to an emergency call-out.
New to district energy or biomass? That's okay. If you have 4th class Power Engineering credentials and hands-on experience with equipment like boilers, pumps, or chillers, we'll help you build the rest. Corix offers on-the-job training and a tuition assistance program for approved courses to support your career growth.
What You'll Do
Monitor, adjust, and control plant systems (on-site and via SCADA/HMI) to keep operations safe, efficient, and compliant with internal standards and external regulations Operate, inspect, and maintain equipment across district energy facilities, underground distribution piping, and energy transfer stations, performing preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance and repairs Troubleshoot performance issues, take corrective action, and recommend improvements to optimize system reliability and availability Lead on-site health & safety: hazard assessments, site inspections, and safety documentation (JHAs, FLHAs, SOPs, ERPs), for employees, contractors, and visitors alike Keep detailed, accurate maintenance records in the CMMS Respond to after-hours emergencies as part of the on-call rotation, acting as first responder when needed
Working Conditions
Plant and field environments, including exposure to water, chemicals, hazardous materials, and noise Heavy lifting/moving up to 50 lbs. Extended standing and climbing Occasional work at heights, in confined spaces, or in inclement weather 12-hour rotating shifts, plus on-call and scheduled overtime participation
What You Bring
4th Class Power Engineer certification Minimum 2 years' experience maintaining and troubleshooting mechanical equipment (boilers, cooling towers, chillers, pumps, valves, piping, and fittings) Valid Class 5 driver's license, with ability to provide a driver's abstract
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Strong communicator, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently, with good critical thinking and problem-solving instincts Someone who takes pride in a clean, well-organized workspace and holds equipment and facilities to a high standard
Assets (not required, but a bonus)
Biomass or HVAC system experience SCADA/HMI, controls, or instrumentation experience
First Aid Level I
The anticipated pay range for this position is $38–40 per hour, based on relevant experience and qualifications. This position is eligible for overtime.
