The Digital Design and Delivery (DDD) Division is the Government of Alberta’s centre of digital delivery. The division partners with ministries to design simpler, faster, and better services; build confidence and capability in modern digital practice; and ensure service quality and value through clear standards and controls.
The Product Branch within DDD is accountable for partnering with ministry programs to frame problems and deliver evidence-based solutions through the design and delivery of technology and services.
Role Responsibilities
The Product Branch is looking for three (3) Digital Architects. Reporting to the Manager, Product and Delivery, this position is a visionary and technical leader responsible for shaping the strategic design and overseeing the implementation of the organization’s digital ecosystem, with a strong emphasis on leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create innovative solutions.
Bridging business strategy and technological execution, the Digital Architect translates complex organizational goals into robust, scalable, secure, and AI-enabled digital architectures — aligning solutions with GoA enterprise architecture standards, defining technology standards, and providing architectural leadership across product teams to enable reliable service delivery, support modernization, and reduce operational and technology risk.
The responsibilities of this role include:
Develop and drive the enterprise digital and AI architecture strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
Design scalable end-to-end digital solutions integrating AI/ML, data, applications, and enterprise systems.
Establish and govern architecture standards, security requirements, and responsible AI practices.
Lead technology, platform, and vendor evaluations, including AI/ML solutions and proof-of-concept initiatives.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to delivery teams, enabling successful AI-driven project outcomes.
Govern enterprise integration and architecture decisions to reduce technical debt, risk, and operational complexity.
Create and maintain architecture artifacts, including solution designs, data flows, blueprints, and decision records.
To be successful in this position, you will demonstrate:
Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical and AI concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a strategic and forward-thinking mindset.
Proven leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to influence and inspire technical teams, including those working on AI/ML initiatives.
Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills, with the ability to balance technical excellence, business pragmatism, and ethical AI considerations.
