Position Summary
The Account Relationship Manager I (ARM I) is a developing sales professional responsible for building strong customer relationships and supporting profitable sales growth within an assigned territory. This role partners closely with Stellar Specialists, supplier representatives, Customer Experience, and Operations teams to deliver value-driven solutions that improve customer performance and profitability.
The ARM I focuses on growing existing customer relationships while developing the skills necessary to independently identify and pursue new business opportunities through consultative selling, territory development, and exceptional customer service.
This role is designed for an individual who demonstrates strong sales aptitude, relationship-building skills, learning agility, and a desire to help customers solve operational challenges. With coaching and experience, the ARM I is expected to develop increasing independence in territory management, business development, and consultative selling.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Account Management & Customer Relationships
Manage assigned customer accounts while maintaining high levels of customer retention, responsiveness, and satisfaction.
Build and maintain strong customer relationships through regular communication and onsite visits.
Develop an understanding of customer operations, purchasing behaviors, challenges, and business objectives.
Deliver exceptional customer service while developing credibility as a trusted resource to assigned accounts.
Support customer inventory management programs, including Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI), by monitoring customer needs and assisting with onsite inventory activities as required.
Identify customer issues and coordinate with appropriate internal resources to support timely resolution.
Sales Growth & Territory Development
Develop and execute territory activities that support customer retention, profitable sales growth, and established business objectives.
Identify opportunities to expand Stellar's products, services, inventory management programs, and value-added solutions within existing accounts.
Develop and maintain a pipeline of prospective customers through networking, referrals, research, cold calling, and other business development activities utilizing ProtonAI.
Develop proficiency in prospecting, opportunity qualification, and new customer acquisition.
Plan, organize, and prioritize territory activities to achieve established sales goals and performance expectations.
Learn to evaluate customer and territory opportunities and appropriately prioritize time and resources.
Consultative Selling & Value Creation
Develop proficiency in applying Stellar's Value Proposition and consultative selling techniques to identify customer needs and recommend practical business solutions.
Identify opportunities to increase wallet share by expanding product utilization, strengthening supplier partnerships, and introducing additional value-added solutions.
Identify, document, and communicate customer cost savings (DCS), operational improvements, and other measurable customer value.
Develop knowledge of Stellar's products, services, supplier capabilities, and value-added solutions.
Collaborate with Stellar Specialists, Customer Experience, Operations, and supplier representatives to develop and deliver customized customer solutions.
Collaboration & Professional Development
Partner effectively with Customer Experience, Operations, Specialists, supplier representatives, and other internal stakeholders to support customer success.
Maintain accurate and timely customer records, pipeline activity, sales opportunities, and other required information within ProtonAI.
Stay current on Stellar products, services, systems, supplier programs, and relevant industry trends.
Actively participate in sales training, coaching, ride-alongs, and professional development opportunities.
Seek feedback and demonstrate the ability to apply coaching to improve sales effectiveness and business judgment.
Develop increasing independence and accountability for assigned customer and territory responsibilities.

Hours/Schedule
Full-time, exempt position.
Schedule may vary based on customer needs and territory requirements.
Frequent travel throughout the assigned territory is required, including occasional overnight travel for customer meetings, training, and sales events.
QualificationsEducation
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Bachelor's degree in Business, Sales, Marketing, or a related field preferred.
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.
Experience
At least one year of relevant sales, account management, business development, customer relationship, or comparable experience preferred.
Previous outside sales experience preferred but not required when the candidate demonstrates strong sales aptitude and relevant transferable experience.
Industrial distribution, manufacturing, MRO, or technical sales experience is a plus.
Metalworking and metal-cutting experience preferred.
Mechanical or technical aptitude preferred.

Additional Requirements
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.

Willingness and flexibility to travel throughout the assigned territory, including occasional overnight travel.
