This role is not remote or Hybrid
Wastequip LLC is seeking a highly skilled Tier 2 Infrastructure Engineer to join our growing team. This is a strategic and technical engineering role responsible for reviewing, designing, enhancing, and maintaining core infrastructure systems.
The Tier 2 designation reflects a broader mastery across multiple Wastequip technology stacks, requiring proven expertise in at least four core areas and the ability to operate across the full infrastructure landscape. This role provides advanced engineering capability, technical leadership, and mentorship, while also serving as an escalation point for complex issues.
This role is located in our headquarters in Charlotte, NC.
Key Responsibilities:
Infrastructure Design & Implementation
Architect and deploy scalable, secure, and resilient infrastructure solutions (on-prem, cloud, hybrid).
Lead and oversee infrastructure projects to support key business initiatives from planning through execution and post-deployment support.
Systems Engineering
Configure and maintain enterprise-grade servers, storage, virtualization platforms, and networking components, including making recommendations as to system functional specifications.
Ensure high availability and performance of infrastructure systems.
Cloud & Virtualization
Manage and evaluate cloud environments (Azure, AWS, etc.) including provisioning, monitoring, and cost optimization.
Direct implementation and administration of virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V) to ensure efficient resource utilization.
Security & Compliance
Implement and evaluate infrastructure-level security controls and ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., NIST, CIS, ISO).
Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to harden systems and develop strategies to respond to vulnerabilities.
Automation & Monitoring
Develop and maintain infrastructure automation scripts (PowerShell, Python, Terraform, etc.).
Enhance monitoring and alerting systems to proactively identify and resolve issues.
Collaboration & Leadership
Act as a senior technical escalation point for IT support teams.
Mentor Tier 1 engineers and contribute to the development of infrastructure standards, playbooks and documentation.
Travel to tier 1 sites and partner with Operational leadership to ensure technology needs are being met.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering or systems administration.
Strong expertise in Windows/Linux server environments, networking, virtualization, and cloud platforms.
Experience with infrastructure-as-code and automation tools.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft, Fortinet, Cisco, VMware, Nutanix, AWS, Azure) are a plus.
