Summary
The Associate Director of Central Sterile Services manages a large, efficient service, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Leads a multidisciplinary team, promotes strong customer service, and oversees performance improvement. Responsible for staff management, budget oversight, and ensuring adherence to healthcare guidelines.
Responsibilities
Assumes advocacy and responsibility while managing a large multifunctional service to ensure maximum efficiency and responsiveness.
Provides direction to a multidisciplinary, multi-skilled workforce to ensure compliance with standards established by accrediting, licensing, regulatory agencies, and the Jackson Health System.
Shares responsibility for developing and maintaining effective working relationships with all disciplines responsible for service provision to customers in Sterile Processing, conducting business ethically and respecting customers' rights.
Retains authority to hire, evaluate, discipline, and terminate staff under their direct supervision according to policies and procedures.
Promotes a strong customer service orientation within Central Sterile Services by developing and implementing customer-focused systems, processes, and behaviors.
Establishes accountability systems for clinical, clerical, and support personnel to assess and serve customer needs accurately and promptly.
Provides leadership by developing, communicating, implementing, and evaluating the mission, goals, and objectives of Central Sterile Services, ensuring alignment with the Division, Medical Staff, and Public Health Trust.
Demonstrates vision and initiative in directing all aspects of Sterile Services, staying informed of changes affecting the service and taking appropriate action for future success.
Develops, communicates, implements, and evaluates an ongoing Performance Improvement plan consistent with the philosophy of the Executive Performance Improvement Council (EPIC) and the Central Sterile Services Performance Improvement Council.
Ensures unit-specific Performance Improvement plans align with those of the Division, Medical Staff, and Public Health Trust, are interdepartmental and interdisciplinary, and include components to increase customer satisfaction, operating efficiencies, and positive customer outcomes.
Provides time and resources for personnel to participate in Performance Improvement activities.
Establishes and directs information management systems to continuously improve customer outcomes and Central Sterile Services performance. Communicates organizational policies and procedures effectively, ensuring Central Sterile Services and the Public Health Trust are informed about clinical, administrative, and environmental issues and their impact.
Ensures information processes are appropriate and compatible with internal and external systems and standards, using and analyzing technology and systems to assess and convey information.
Recruits, retains, evaluates, and motivates staff to implement the goals and objectives of Central Sterile Services.
Implements job performance standards to assess staff competencies and provides leadership for staff development, ensuring participation in orientation, training courses, and mandatory educational programs to maintain competency in job skills, knowledge, equipment usage, and safe work practices.
Maintains knowledge of laws, policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements impacting employees in Central Sterile Services.
Ensures appropriate staffing to meet service needs, facilitates employee empowerment, and encourages participation, delegating tasks while retaining accountability for outcomes.
Enforces Public Health Trust personnel policies fairly and consistently, taking progressive disciplinary action for just cause.
Plans, administers, and uses staff, materials, and unit facilities to meet budgetary objectives, understanding budget development and reimbursement procedures.
Develops and implements strategies to maintain or increase revenues while controlling expenses.
Participates in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and policies related to fiscal, human, material, and informational resources for Central Sterile Services, using Jackson Health System's fiscal management tools effectively.
Develops and manages an Emergency Preparedness Plan consistent with Public Health Trust and community-wide efforts.
Collaborates with Medical staff and other disciplines to develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate clinical care to meet patient needs within Central Sterile Services.
Ensures staff participation in an effective case management system and provides for an effective patient and family education program.
Maintains knowledge of managed care and health care delivery systems, ensuring compliance with guidelines and requirements to provide continuity of care, early discharge planning, and effective utilization of resources. Ensures Central Sterile Services complies with County, State, and Federal regulatory agencies.
Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Experience
Generally requires 7 to 10 years of related experience. Leadership experience is required.
Education
Bachelor's degree in related field is strongly preferred.
Skill
Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
Skill in monitoring/assessing the performance to make improvements or take corrective action.
Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate programs.
Ability to establish goals and objectives.

Credentials
Valid Sterile Processing Technician Certification by CBSPD or IAHCSMM, or other CSS related certification is required.
Incumbents hired before November 20, 2019 must complete obtain the required certification by December 31, 2021.
