Project Manager
Position Overview
As a Project Manager, you'll lead and manage commercial HVAC, plumbing, and controls projects from preconstruction through closeout, coordinating field teams, subcontractors, vendors, and clients to deliver on-time, on-budget results with exceptional safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. Working closely with operations leadership, you'll proactively identify risks/opportunities, track budgets, foster open communication, and drive profitability while building long-term relationships. Our people-first culture empowers your leadership with professional development, mentorship, cross-functional collaboration, and the opportunity to mentor teams in delivering sustainable, efficient mechanical systems nationwide at any of our operating companies.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manage full project lifecycle: planning, scheduling, budgeting, resource allocation, risk management, change orders, and closeout for HVAC/mechanical projects.
Review bid documents, drawings, and scopes early to identify potential issues, opportunities, risks, omissions, and value engineering possibilities; develop workable solutions to prevent problems.
Collaborate with preconstruction, estimating, and operations teams to create realistic schedules, budgets, and project plans that meet milestones and financial targets.
Track project budgets, costs, labor productivity, variances, and forecasts; identify shortcomings/pitfalls or profit-enhancing opportunities and implement corrective actions.
Promote open communication among project teams, clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal departments to resolve conflicts and ensure alignment.
Organize and lead coordination meetings, site walks, and progress reviews; maintain detailed documentation of scope changes, execution decisions, costs, and client communications.
Ensure strict adherence to contract documents, specifications, company policies, safety requirements, quality expectations, and ethical standards.
Champion quality assurance: conduct job-site reviews, ensure installations meet/exceed industry standards, prevent call-backs/warranty issues, and partner with quality teams on processes/inspections.
Build and maintain long-term relationships with clients, architects, engineers, general contractors, subcontractors, and vendors to support repeat business and future opportunities.
Recruit, train, mentor, and develop project team members; track performance, delegate appropriately, nominate for promotions/incentives, and participate in hiring as needed.
Enforce safety compliance across teams: assure PPE usage, coordinate with safety officers for inspections/visits, and uphold company/project safety protocols at all times.
Provide leadership vision for project planning, coordination, sequencing, labor utilization, and continuous improvement; communicate updates and issues to executive leadership.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Yes – Direct supervision and leadership of superintendents, foremen, field personnel, and support staff on assigned projects; responsible for performance evaluations, training/mentoring, promotions/incentives, conflict resolution, and team development to ensure high performance, safety adherence, and project success.
Requirements/Qualifications
Experience: 5–10+ years of progressive project management experience in commercial HVAC/mechanical construction or related building services; proven track record managing teams and projects valued from $500K to multi-million dollars.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience with strong technical HVAC knowledge considered.
Certifications: PMP, LEED, OSHA 30-hour, or relevant trade certifications a plus; valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
Physical Demands: Primarily office-based with frequent job-site visits; ability to walk active construction sites, climb ladders/stairs, lift light materials (plans, laptop), and travel regionally/nationally as needed; standard office mobility for computer work and meetings.
Work Environment/Safety: Professional office with hybrid options and active construction sites; exposure to varying weather, noise, dust, heights; must adhere to OSHA regulations, conduct hazard identification, and wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots) on sites—safety is our top priority and non-negotiable. This is a safety-sensitive position.
Strong leadership, team mentoring, performance management, and conflict resolution.
Proficiency with project tools (Procore, MS Project, Bluebeam, Excel) and financial tracking.
Excellent written/verbal communication, client/stakeholder management, and relationship building.
Safety and quality leadership; ability to read/interpret contracts, blueprints, specs, and scopes.
Multitasking under pressure, initiative, professionalism, and commitment to ethics/compliance.
