The medical coder is responsible for analyzing, abstracting, and compiling medical data while generating accurate reports. They must also manage daily workloads, investigate missing charts, and maintain strict confidentiality of patient information.
Candidates must have a high school diploma, a completed certification program, and at least two years of experience in a healthcare setting. Proficiency in medical coding guidelines such as ICD-10 and CPT is required, along with strong communication skills.

Houston Behavioral Healthcare Hospital is currently recruiting for a Fulltime Medical Coder, Mon-Fri 7a-3:30p or 8a-4p.
This position is in Medical Records, the person must be reliable and have a solid understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
Duties include:
Medical Coder:
Under supervision and guidance of the Medical Records Director, the coder is responsible for analyzing, abstracting, compiling data, and generating reports. This position requires knowledge of data entry and transcription.
This position requires ability to maintain a high level of integrity and confidentiality of medical information, HIPAA.
Interacts and communicates effectively with members of the medical record team and the appropriate stakeholders.
Must provide excellent customer service when dealing with internal and external contacts. Assemble and analyze with 100% accuracy. Runs missing chart report and notifies appropriate personnel. Follows through and investigates missing charts.
Responds promptly to internal and external customer requests.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Other duties will be assigned on a as needed basis, such as the ability to follow instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
Manages daily workload and consistently finishes on a daily basis. Keeps up with workload during high census periods, and participates in special projects, during low census period.
Education: High School Diploma and a successful completion of a certification program required.
Minimum Work Experience: 2 year in a healthcare setting. Experience with medical coding guidelines and procedures such as ICD-10, CPT or current.
