The Senior Legal Counsel will support payor and clinical contracting efforts while providing strategic legal guidance on complex healthcare regulatory matters. This role involves transforming nuanced regulatory challenges into actionable advice to mitigate business risks and support operational goals.
Requirements
Candidates must have at least 7 years of professional experience, including a minimum of 5 years in healthcare regulatory law and 5 years in contract negotiation. Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills are required to provide practical legal support in a fast-paced environment.
Full job description
We believe that mental health is just as important as physical health. We recognize that mental health issues can be complex and multifaceted, and we are dedicated to treating the whole person, not just the symptoms.
We aim to create a world where mental health is no longer stigmatized or marginalized, but rather is embraced as an integral part of one's overall well-being.
We believe that by providing quality care that is both evidence-based and compassionate, we can empower individuals to take charge of their mental health and achieve their full potential. We are passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of those struggling with mental health issues and we strive to be a force for positive change in the field of mental healthcare.
Rula is a remote-first company. We currently hire in most U.S. states, with the exception of Hawaii.
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to help Rula navigate the complex intersection of healthcare regulation and commercial growth. In this role, you will support our payor and clinical contracting efforts, serving as a trusted partner to our business teams as we build scalable, compliant partnerships and ensure quality services are delivered. You will also tackle nuanced regulatory challenges—such as corporate practice of medicine; fraud and abuse; telehealth; scope of practice; state AI laws—transforming complexity into clear, actionable advice that proactively mitigates risks to the business, supports our daily operations, and achieves business objectives and goals. Joining our growing legal team means you will have the opportunity to build foundational processes that directly enable our mission of making high-quality mental healthcare accessible to everyone.
Required Qualifications
7+ years of related professional experience
Minimum of 5 years of healthcare regulatory law experience, either in a law firm or in-house, providing strategic guidance and legal support on a variety of healthcare regulatory matters including, but not limited to, corporate practice of medicine; federal and state fraud and abuse laws (e.g., Anti-Kickback Statutes; False Claims Act; Civil Monetary Penalties Law); scope of practice; telehealth laws; HIPAA; clinical governance frameworks for AI initiatives; Medicare and Medicaid requirements and reimbursement issues
Minimum of 5 years of contracting experience including drafting and negotiating provider agreements, payor agreements, commercial agreements, network participation agreements, business associate agreements, management services agreements, professional services agreements, and other related agreements
Experience working with and supporting healthcare providers and/or healthcare entities
Strong writing, analytic, communication, and interpersonal skills to provide efficient, succinct, and practical guidance and support in a fast-paced working environment
Preferred Qualifications
While having the preferred qualifications enhances your candidacy, having all of them is not mandatory. We encourage all interested applicants to apply, even those who may not meet every preferred requirement.

We're serious about your well-being! As part of our team, full-time employees receive:
